Job Summary

PVCC is seeking a Public Safety Assistant who provides security at fixed post or assigned location by foot or cart; supports the general public safety mission and provides non-law enforcement assistance to students, faculty, staff and visitors at Maricopa Community Colleges; and enforces designated Administrative Rules and Regulations Issues parking citations and makes reports, answers phones and locks/unlocks doors, monitors CCTV cameras and access control system.

Essential Functions

45% Interacts with and aids members of the college community, visitors and allied responders such as fire, medical, and other police personnel; Performs routine patrols of the campus and parking lots; Reports safety hazards and stands by until condition is rectified. Assists motorists with vehicle problems; unlocks rooms, buildings. Issues citations/warnings Proactively addresses issues; Provides CPR/AED, first-aid, and directs medical personnel arriving on campus.

20% Conducts general data entry in College Police databases and maintains a daily log and prepares reports on campus incidents performs office duties such as reports, monitors CCTV and answers in-coming calls; reviews reports from staff; responds to fires alarms and building alarms throughout the campus. Maintains safety of college as assigned.

15% Responds to queries from the public for general information; mediates disputes, assists with cash handling/counting by staff. Provides coordination of services between main campus and site.

10% Conducts briefings and other informational meetings to inform staff of critical security and safety matters or current issues and changes.

10% Ensures effective control and monitoring of all alarm systems, CCTV, HVAC and key card access systems. Manages and secures any keys including metal and card keys, managers campus lost and found.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED.
There is no substitution or equivalency allowable for the High School Diploma or GED.

Desired Qualifications
  1. Security or law enforcement experience in a college or university setting
  2. Experience with database systems, CCTV, or alarm monitoring systems
  3. Certification in CPR/First Aid


Special Working Conditions
  • May require possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D Driver's License or other state license; employee must meet district minimum standards regarding driving:

  • May require stairs and/or ladders to reach assigned areas along with working at high heights
  • May be required to lift, carry or move up to 165 lb. body in case of an extraction or rescue situation and to meet the fitness requirements
