Risk Management is responsible for identifying and evaluating the Council's exposure to loss through risk control and risk financing methods. The department develops, recommends, and implements appropriate risk management strategies and programs to protect the agency from the adverse impact of loss. It also self-administers all auto liability and workers' compensation claims.
How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region:
The Principal Administrative Specialist provides advanced administrative support with limited supervision, with a specific focus on the assignments and workflow of liability and workers compensation claims to ensure compliance with department and State standards and procedures.
This position is eligible for a hybrid (both remote and onsite) telework arrangement. The candidate's permanent residence must be in Minnesota or Wisconsin.

What you would do in this job
-
- Gather all pertinent information to set up claims daily to maintain a timely and accurate department workflow. Accurately and timely enter claim information in the claim system and the State of MN Campus system. This includes set-up of liability claims and/or workers compensation lost time and medical only claims and incidents.
- Process (sort and scan) incoming and outgoing mail, email, and faxes for the department.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. This position processes a high level of sensitive and confidential information which includes securing and processing medical records and interacting (verbal communication) with medical providers.
- Provide general support and assistance to the Department Managers and Claim Representatives. This position demands a high level of accuracy, and the ability to multi-task in the operation of multiple financial systems. Participate in the testing and correcting of errors of the Claim Platform system and EDI (electronic data interchange) with DOLI (Department of Labor & Industry) systems.
- Develop a positive working relationship with all internal and external customers.
- Collaborate with other departments to obtain information and ensure the accuracy of the claim information to ensure accurate claim processing.
- Respond to inquiries and determine where to appropriately direct incoming calls and department emails and maintain timely responses.
- Other related duties as assigned.

What education and experience are required for this job (minimum qualifications)

Any of the following combinations of completed education (in business administration, office administration, or related field) and administrative work experience:
- High school diploma/GED and four years of administrative experience
- Associate degree or higher and two years of administrative experience
What additional skills and experience would be helpful in this job (desired qualifications):
- Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Adobe.
- Recent administrative experience (within the last two years).
- Experience navigating multiple software applications.
- Experience in risk management, healthcare, or insurance industries.
- Experience with medical terminology.
- Experience working with the Labor EDI (electronic data interchange) system.
- Experience working with diverse populations of internal and external customers.
What knowledge, skills and abilities you should have within the first six months on the job:
- Skilled in Microsoft Office and creating complex spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and database management (Idash, WAM, ORIGAMI, Application Extender, SOS, TransitMaster, Data Serve, IRS Tin Matching, Rising Medical Solutions, PeopleSoft, DOLI Campus, DMV, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Share File and Adobe).
- Ability to create and develop complex forms and template documents.
- Skills in providing effective, accurate, courteous, and professional customer service.
- Ability to read and interpret documents, administrative policies, department guidelines, and operational procedures.
- Ability to perform under limited supervision recognizing when assistance or guidance is required.
- Ability to display independent judgment, initiative, and organization in solving a variety of problems.
- Experience in contributing to a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and respectful workplace
- Strong and accurate data entry skills.
- Strong detail orientation.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge of racial and social equity, and an ability to participate in conversations about race and equity in Risk Management communications.

What your work environment would be: You would perform your work in a standard office setting. Work may sometimes require travel between your primary work site and other sites.
