ROLE SUMMARY:
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Director, SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting to join our Accounting team.
Reporting to the VP, Corporate Controller, this role leads the company's SEC reporting, technical accounting, and revenue teams.
This is a leadership position that is expected to set the vision for and guide your teams through execution of their responsibilities. As a technical accounting subject matter expert, you will research, review, and communicate the Company's conclusions on accounting matters. You will produce best in class SEC reporting and disclosures. You will also lead our revenue accounting team to support the Company's growth and expansion into new products and markets.
This role works cross-functionally within the finance leadership group and across multiple departments (Legal, Commercial, and Operations).
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting


  • Manage the SEC reporting process involving the preparation and review of the Company's Form 10-Q, 10-K, and related SEC filings (8-K's, proxy statements, etc.), with a team of SEC and technical accountants and working closely with other functions.
  • Draft footnotes, MD&A, and other disclosures. Research trends in external reporting and make recommendations that ensure compliance with SEC and U.S. GAAP disclosure requirements
  • Oversee the assessment, implementation, and communication of all technical accounting topics and new accounting pronouncements impacting the Company
  • Lead the accounting for mergers and acquisitions including due diligence, working with external valuation specialists, and preparation of the ASC 805 accounting documentation
  • Provide technical guidance to the Accounting Operations team
  • Review all technical areas covering equity, including stock-based compensation and EPS calculations
  • Develop, review, and maintain comprehensive accounting policies



Revenue Recognition


  • Oversee the month-end revenue close process. Ensure the team delivers accurate and timely revenue and receivables information for internal and external reporting
  • Provide guidance on contract structures that balance a customer's needs with favorable revenue recognition outcomes in accordance with ASC 606
  • Review the estimates and judgments used in establishing the period end 'gross to net' revenue accounting, including contractual allowances / adjustments, discounts, third party claims, government reimbursement, rebates, incentives, chargebacks, etc.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop, review, and maintain comprehensive revenue accounting / order to cash policies and procedures. Provide internal training as necessary
  • Establish accounts receivable protocols that ensure timely and accurate invoicing to customers and collections reporting. Partner with the sales and customer service teams accordingly
  • Lead the ERP implementation for the revenue / order to cash cycle



General


  • Mentor and develop the accounting professionals on your teams, providing guidance and professional growth opportunities
  • Oversee your team's preparation of all related external audit requests
  • Identify and drive process improvement initiatives including automation, data analytics and enhanced use of our filing platform.
  • Maintain SOX compliance across all areas of your responsibility and partner with the SOX Transformation team to enhance internal controls


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance with 12+ years of accounting experience or a Master's degree in accounting or finance with 10+ years of accounting experience
  • 6+ years of managerial experience working in (or as a consultant for) publicly traded, global companies listed on a U.S stock exchange
  • CPA license



PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • 6+ years of progressive experience in an audit / assurance role with SEC clients at a 'Big 4' public accounting firm
  • Candidates with life sciences industry background
  • Strong technical accounting background with a thorough knowledge of US GAAP, SOX and SEC reporting standards, as well as experience with research and preparation of accounting position papers for complex transactions and general corporate matters, including ASC 606 and 805
  • Experience collaborating with sales and legal teams, including cross-functional initiatives that include direct and indirect reports
  • 4+ years leading the revenue accounting cycle for a health care provider, including third party reimbursement and complex 'gross to net' analyses
  • Demonstrated ability to grow a global quote to cash process, navigating the complexities of doing business domestically and internationally in a health care setting, and helping teams through change management
  • Focus on innovation with experience standing up modern financial applications, ERP enhancements, and automation (robotic process automation, etc.)
  • Experience with Oracle Fusion and/or as the accounting lead on the order to cash cycle for an ERP implementation
  • Experience with Workiva and FloQast
