Motor Vehicle Mechanic Supervisor

Overview:

Repairs and upgrades forklift trucks and transportation vehicles by listening to operator's description of malfunctions, conducting tests, identifying problems and finding resolutions. Submit purchase order request for parts. Maintains a safe work environment by verifying vehicle safety device operation; following standards and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned. Maintains forklift truck and vehicle serviceability by completing preventive maintenance requirements and repairs to include; hydraulics systems, electrical systems, and drive train overhauling. Diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required; replacing worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts; grinding and adjusting valves; rebuilding carburetors; overhauling transmissions; and repairing fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Supervise day-to-day activities of the vehicle and forklift maintenance team.
• Provide hands-on technical guidance and support in diagnosing and repairing complex issues involving hydraulic, electrical, and drive train systems.
• Review and approve technician diagnostics and repair strategies; ensure proper documentation of service records and work orders.
• Coordinate and submit purchase order requests for parts, tools, and equipment as needed.
• Enforce workplace safety standards, verify the proper operation of vehicle safety devices, and conduct routine safety audits.
• Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules to minimize equipment downtime.
• Monitor job progress, ensure service quality, and maintain compliance with maintenance protocols.
• Serve as a point of contact for escalated technical issues and assist with troubleshooting complex mechanical failures.
• Perform regular evaluations of team performance; coach and train technicians to develop skills and ensure knowledge of best practices.
• Oversee battery replacement, charging procedures, and general servicing of electric-powered forklifts and stock selectors.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Direct supervision of maintenance technicians.
• Responsible for staffing recommendations, training, performance reviews, and day-to-day work assignments.
• Promote a team-based culture and maintain morale and productivity.

Education and/or Experience:

• Must have High School Diploma or GED (May substitute experience for education on a year-by-year basis).
• Equivalent training/ experience, and five years of general experience of which two years must be related experience are required.
• In general, the work of the Motor Vehicle Mechanic requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent.
• Preferred candidate will have experience with numerous equipment model lines such as Yale, Hyster, Clark, Crown, Raymond and Mitsubishi forklifts to include electrical, gasoline, propane and diesel models.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Must be proficient with Microsoft Suite of products including, Word, Excel, Access and E-mail business software.
• Must be able to demonstrate a good attitude and an ability to work as a member of a team.
• Position requires self-motivation and the ability to work effectively under a minimum of supervision.
• Must be able to multi-task efficiently, work in a fast paced environment on multiple projects, and have a strong attention for detail.

Work Environment:

Works in shop/warehouse environment. Work involves repetitive motions and standing for long periods of time. Work is of a physical nature and requires the incumbent be able to lift 50 lbs overhead and/or repetitively. Outside work in hot and cold or wet weather is occasionally required.
