Inside Machine Shop Specialist - Steel America
Purpose:
Steel America is seeking a Inside Machine Shop (IMS) Specialist experienced in Rigging to support operations in the Inside Machine Shop in Norfolk, VA.
Job Description:


  • Setup, Operation, and Completion of necessary paperwork for final report of the Stress Relief process and Equipment
  • Setup, Operation, and Completion of necessary paperwork for final report of Shot Peen process and Equipment.
  • Setup and Installation of Shaft Sleeves & Backing Strips onto shafts for Sleeve Weld process.
  • Setup, Operation, and Completion of necessary paperwork for final report of Strain Gage process and Equipment
  • Manufacturing, Preservation, and Packaging Marine Shaft and/or any other item in accordance with specification MIL-2845E
  • Making precision cuts and drilling holes on & in lumber
  • Occasionally conduct preventive maintenance to avoid unnecessary repairs and downtime on equipment above listed equipment.
  • Some Interpretation of blueprints, specifications, diagrams, or schematics to determine appropriate location of shaft sleeves and in the building of shaft crates.
  • Assist in training helpers/future IMS Specialist
  • Perform safety inspections of equipment and accessories.
  • Identify necessary external repairs to equipment and accessories.
  • Introduce cost-saving ideas when applicable.
  • Understand and act upon instruction.
  • Work independently to complete responsibilities
  • Must have regular/reliable attendance.
  • Must learn and become proficient in the use of the over-head cranes, jib cranes, and forklifts.
  • All other duties as assigned which will include assisting IMS is most of its NON-Machining functions
  • Daily cleanup of work area.


Qualifications:


  • Must have two (2) years of rigging/overhead crane operation experience.
  • Must have some knowledge of and ability to use hand tools and instruments associated with the trade.
  • Must be proficient in reading a Measuring Tape and understanding the size of associated fractions on said tape.
  • Must be able to work effectively with others.
  • Must be able to comprehend and follow instructions.
  • Must be able to multi-task and organize information and various assignments.
  • Must be steady, reliable worker.
  • Must have strong communication skills both written and oral.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Prefer experience operating forklifts and various cranes.


Travel Requirements:


  • Minimal Travel; 10% or less.


Physical Requirements:


  • Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 20 lbs.
  • Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces, including enter and moving through manholes.
  • Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions.
  • Frequent exposure to noise due to machinery and equipment.
  • Employee is required to operate trucks, forklifts & man-lifts.
  • While performing the duties of this job, you may frequently be required to stand, walk & sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, squat, kneel, twist and crawl.
  • Work in extreme temperatures and conditions. At times you will work in areas that have less adequate ventilation
  • Frequent use of respirator.
