Summary

Responsible for installing, operating, maintaining and repairing equipment and facilities for public swimming pools and all splash pads This position requires specific knowledge of the commercial swimming pool industry, including water chemistry, pool and splash pad equipment install and repair, and the ability to perform general facility maintenance and coordination with vendors.

Pay Range: $15.54 - $19.25 (Depending on qualifications and experience)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Inspect and perform routine testing of swimming pool facilities, splash pads and supporting equipment including chlorinators, chemical feeders, filtering systems, pumps and motors to identify potential operational problems and to comply with city, state and federal requirements.

  • Perform water quality checks to ensure correct chemical balance for pools and splash pads in compliance with state standards.

  • Safely resolves maintenance and repair issues in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner, according to industry standards, and according to relevant manufacturers' specifications.

  • Develop and maintains schedules of routine and preventative maintenance and replacement of aquatic equipment; adheres to amenity manufacturers' preventative maintenance programs.

  • Repair minor plumbing problems and perform clean up duties for pool facilities.

  • Maintain and repair pool facilities including minor mechanical, construction and electrical maintenance.

  • May be required to respond to emergency calls to perform repairs and/or meet with service vendors during off-duty hours.

  • Must be able to work a varied schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays. Will be required to assist with inspecting and maintain playgrounds and picnic equipment, park amenities, graffiti removal, etc. as needed during off season.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)

  • Two (2) years related experience

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

  • Three (3) years' experience in commercial or municipal pool maintenance; or equivalent combination of vocational training/education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices and for maintaining and operating pool facilities and/or splash pads

  • Comprehensive knowledge of troubleshooting of chemical pumps, vacuums, pool pumps, chemical feedsystems,

  • Comprehensive heater usage

  • Comprehensive knowledge methods and techniques of water sterilization, chlorination and PH balancing

  • Comprehensive knowledge of principles and techniques used in electrical, plumbing, masonry and carpentry work

  • Comprehensive knowledge of safety hazards and safety practices

  • Ability to perform basic electrical, plumbing, painting, masonry, and carpentry work

  • Ability to safely and effectively operate a variety of maintenance and aquatic tools and equipment

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid Texas Class C Driver's License

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain the Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification within 60 days from date of employment.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

The incumbent works with frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk. May be exposed to extremes of heat and cold, rain, humidity, wetness, insects, noxious odors, fumes, and physical stress from exertion and lifting. Exposed to physical exertion such as bending, lifting, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing. Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Must be available to work weekends and 10 hour days during pool season.
