As part of HVAC Cooling, SPX Cooling Technologies is a leader in high quality industrial HVAC equipment used to cool large facilities like hospitals, data centers, and power plants. How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. The Welder Assembler is a new position and will require both welding and assembly skills. As a welder you will fuse metal materials together using high heating equipment and welding processes such as MIG and TIG. Welders will work with a range of materials and equipment in fitting and assembling metal components to form structures. When welding work is complete you will assist in the final assembly of our evaporator and/ or condenser units.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

1. Welding

  • Weld a variety of material such as sheet metal, carbon steel, aluminium, stainless steel and copper with no leaks
  • Perform weldments out of position with exceptional appearance
  • Perform inter-piping, including fitting, aligning and adjustments
  • Operate hand-welding and flame-cutting equipment such as oxyacetylene torch
  • Read blueprints and drawings to identify welding measurements and position
  • Perform leak tests

2. Assembly

  • Read and understand bill of materials
  • Fit, align, adjust, fasten and/or plumb parts together to ordinary tolerances
  • Use tools such as wrenches, impact guns, utility knife, drift pins, sealant tape, glue, staple gun, nail gun, sheet grinder and any other required tools/equipment safely and effectively
  • Tag and label finished units

3. Overall

  • Operate crane and forklift
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols by wearing protective glasses, gloves, masks, ear plugs, and boots
  • Troubleshoot issues with assistance
  • Keep an organized and clean work area
  • Additional duties as assigned

What we are looking for (Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Experience

  • 1-2 years of experience with MIG and TIG
  • 1-2 years of experience in manufacturing operation
  • Must be able to pass a certification weld test with MIG and TIG
  • Read a tape measure and ruler and convert fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Organized, self-starter, with the ability to work unsupervised while meeting all product quality requirements
  • Ability to weld pipe/tubing leak free
  • Experience welding steel, stainless steel, carbon steel and aluminum
  • Ability to read mechanical engineered drawings
  • Knowledge of engineered specified tolerances

Education & Certifications

  • High school diploma or GED required

Travel & Working Environment

  • Onsite
  • The employee may be required to sit for long periods of time
  • Climb stairs, reach and bend regularly
  • Occasionally stand, walk, climb, crawl, twist, and work at heights.
  • Occasionally lift, grasp, hold and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Manufacturing environment requires use of required Personal Protective Equipment, such as foot, eye, and ear protection when in production locations
  • Potential exposure to bad weather, excessive heat, and/or excessive noise

As required by law in this state, the estimated hourly rate range for this position is $22 - $24 and represents our good faith estimate as to what our ideal candidates are likely to expect. We tailor our offers within the range based on organizational needs, internal equity, market data, geographic zone, and the selected candidate's experience, education, industry knowledge, location, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the selection process. At SPX, it is not common for individuals to be hired at the higher end of the range, and compensation decisions depend on a variety of factors. This position is eligible to participate in a discretionary bonus, subject to the rules governing the plan.
