Press Line Mechanic Trainee

Pay: $28.15

Shift: Any

Responsible for the production of quality cans, the efficient operation the press department, and being accountable for the quality of their duties under general supervision.

  • Inspect machine to determine if it is in proper operating condition.
  • Maintain all equipment as required, including adjustments, exchange parts, complete overhaul, installation of change parts, setting dies, and other adjustments, repairs, and alterations.
  • Instruct press mechanic trainees as required in the efficient performance of their duties.
  • Keep all records pertaining to job during production and check maintenance as required. This includes entering data into computers or using check sheets as assigned.
  • Review results of Machine Vision.
  • Make certain the correct tinplate spec is placed at each press line prior to use.
  • Change bundles.
  • Inspect tinplate and remove defective sheets before feeding into presses.
  • Remove jams from equipment.
  • Relief of other press employees.
  • Assist other press department personnel as needed or assigned.
  • Maintain working area in clean and orderly condition.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with supervision and other line personnel.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must be able to perform all duties pertaining to production and maintenance of equipment necessary in producing can ends, including the following: sheet feeders, presses, curlers, liners, dryers, down stackers, ACB's and Robot Palletizer
  • Ability to properly and accurately maintain records, use computers, and test equipment.

Experience / Education

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must meet prerequisite job related test scores
  • Journeyman Mechanic

Working Conditions

  • Shift work and overtime is required, as needed.
  • The employee is regularly exposed to a loud environment, moving mechanical parts/machinery and chemicals.
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to frequently lift up to 50 lbs. and occasionally 75 lbs.
  • Must be able to push and pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand, reach, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and a variety of other physical functions on a frequent basis.
  • Must be able to follow safety procedures
  • Must be able to work at a consistently fast pace.
  • Must be able to work in varying environments.
