As a Principal Scientist, Team Leader - US Biological Mass Spectrometry, Proteomics you will join GSK's Discovery Biology organization and play a leadership role within the Biological Mass Spectrometry group at our US R&D Hub in Upper Providence, Pennsylvania. The Biological MS group uses world-class expertise coupled with state-of-the-art technologies to explore target biology, discover and profile new molecules, and understand the impact of these molecules in living systems. A successful applicant will have in depth practical and theoretical knowledge of mass spectrometry and its applications to cell biology, chemical biology, and drug pharmacology. This person should have a demonstrated ability to think creatively to answer complex scientific questions. In addition, the successful applicant will have an interpersonal skillset suited to leading a team and working in an interdisciplinary matrix environment. This position requires outstanding leadership, communication, and people skills coupled with a strong strategic mindset.

• Play an important leadership role within the Biological MS Proteomics team at our US R&D site in Upper Providence.
• Partner with cell biology, high content biology, and chemical biology teams to deliver proteomics capabilities and workstreams that align with GSK's strategic vision and advance its drug discovery pipeline from lead discovery to candidate selection.
• Lead global, cross-functional projects to identify, evaluate, and embed novel mass spectrometry technologies that maintain GSK's competitive advantage in state-of-the-art technologies.
• Serve in a matrix leadership role for Discovery Biology as part of interorganizational drug discovery program teams.
• Foster global culture by liaising and collaborating with UK Discovery Biology and Biological MS teams.
• Create an environment that stimulates, develops, and promotes the scientific and career development of others.
• Provide leadership through effective feedback, coaching, mentoring, and training to influence cultural change to deliver our strategic priorities.

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

• Ph.D. in analytical chemistry, biology, chemical biology, or related field with 2+ years post graduate experience applying state-of-the-art mass spectrometry to address basic and applied questions in biology. Master's degree in equivalent subject matter with 5+ years relevant post graduate experience will also be considered.
• Experience with the design and execution of label free quantitative proteomics experiments, including the use of automation for scaled sample preparation and informatics pipelines to process and interpret large data sets.
• Experience with functional proteomics workstreams for measuring cellular dynamics and drug mode-of-action, such as degradome, interactome, and post-translational modification analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

• Experience managing a team of individual contributors or leading a scientific matrix team in a biotechnology or drug discovery setting.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the drug discovery process, including target validation, lead discovery, lead optimization, and pre-clinical safety.
• Experience building medium to high throughput targeted cell-based assays.
• Working knowledge of cell and molecular biology wet lab protocols.
