HJF is seeking a Research Associate I to perform research and/or development in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff. Exercises technical discretion in the design, execution, and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project strategies. Performs limited analysis and interpretation of results.

This position will be in support of the Consortium for Health and Military Performance (CHAMP) at the Uniformed Services University (USU) in the department of Military and Emergency Medicine. This position is in support of the Warrior Heat- and Exertion-Related Events Collaborative, a collaboration between CHAMP and the Army Heat Center at Fort Benning, GA.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

This position will be a 6-month contract from start date.


Responsibilities

  • Sustains relationships with WHEC program members, CHAMP leadership, and DoD stakeholders (Service Members, health care and performance providers, military leaders, etc.) to inform the creation and dissemination of educational materials and content as well as future research projects. Engages in outreach efforts to increase the DoD and professional communities' awareness of program's resources.
  • Assists in creation of heat- and exertion-related illness recognition, prevention, and treatment education and training products. Assists with answering heat and exertion-related injury questions posed by stakeholders such as physicians, medics, and Service Members.
  • Supports didactic training and education seminars in the areas of heat- and exertion-related illness recognition, prevention, and treatment provided by other Army Heat Center team members.
  • Maintains records and documentation for Army Heat Center research and education projects.
  • Under supervision, plans, conducts, and completes research investigations in support of the Army Heat Center. Collaborates with site coordinators, investigators, and other research personnel to facilitate project operations and ensure proper documentation of all study procedures and administrative requirements. Performs routine data analysis and verifies and corrects data entry.
  • Reviews new patient records and screens patients for eligibility in participation in Army Heat Center research protocols. Collects and analyzes appropriate data for recruitment purposes, determines patient commitment and obtains informed consent according to study requirements.
  • Assists with the writing and editing of research results for publication in technical reports, study reports, and peer-reviewed journals.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Master's Degree
  • Minimum of 0-2 years' experience required

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and computer skills
  • Knowledge of federal and local regulations and policies pertinent to human subjects research and to heat- and exertion-related injuries
  • Experience and knowledge in coordination and execution of research studies, collaborating with internal and external partners, and translating research knowledge to educational materials
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule, and coordinate activities to meet deadlines
  • Experience and knowledge in translation and presentation of research related to domain area of expertise, with particular focus on heat- and exertion- related injuries
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1 Public Trust/CAC

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $50,100-$70,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
