What you will do in this role:
Under the direction of the Prevention Manager, this position is instrumental in developing and implementing comprehensive prevention strategies to address a range of public health and social challenges by working across the health and human service sectors. This position is anchored in a collective impact framework, prioritizing the reduction of risk factors and enhancement of protective factors to promote the overall well-being and success of the community. You will work beyond individual behavior, addressing broader social, organizational and policy contexts. The Specialist's efforts should align with established cross-system prevention goals, be grounded in prevention science and best practices, and work along the six levels of the prevention spectrum.

To excel in this role, the Prevention Coordination Specialist should also possess a wide range of knowledge of various health promotion and prevention topics and a deep understanding of the spectrum of prevention and prevention science.

Successful performance of this work requires initiative, creativity, attention to detail, technical skills, flexibility, and the exercise of independent judgment.

Key responsibilities include leveraging both new and existing frameworks, as well as cross-sector teams, to identify, develop and sustain training and best practices. The Specialist will provide expert facilitation and foster cross-sector collaboration to drive impactful prevention initiatives and practices. This includes active coordination of or engagement with targeted networks such as the Trauma-Informed Community Network (TICN), Consolidated Community Funding Pool (CCFP), Partners in Prevention Programming (PIPP), and various prevention focused coalitions. Through these efforts, the Specialist will ensure cohesive and effective prevention strategies that are integrated and resonate across various community sectors, systems and networks.

Note: The assigned functional areas of the position include program development/evaluation, cross-sector collaboration, and/or human service program delivery.

Occasional evenings and weekends may be necessary to meet programmatic needs.


Illustrative Duties

Independently designs, develops, and coordinates ongoing department programs and special projects;
Performs a wide range of professional-level management work for more than one broad administrative function including complex analysis and diverse project management in a lead capacity;
Coordinates and manages the work of administrative, para-professional, and/or professional-level staff in the day-to-day activities of selected projects. Plans, organizes, and coordinates changes to the policies, procedures, or processes related to multiple administrative functions (financial, procurement, budget, human resources, contract or grants administration, information technology systems, etc.);
Plans and conducts or oversees studies or research activities to ensure program quality, determine unmet needs or ensure efficacy of existing programs;
Provides guidance, recommendations, and advice to departmental managers;
Serves on committees, task forces, and management teams to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of existing management/administrative systems;
Writes, edits, and finalizes reports and presentations and presents findings and recommendations to department senior managers.


Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in field related to the assigned functional area; Plus four years of professional work experience within the functional area.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a Child Protective Services Registry check, and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

Additional Work Schedule Requirements: Occasional evenings and weekends may be necessary to meet programmatic needs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in public health, social work, community development, mental health, public administration or a related field.
  • Experience assisting with cross-system and cross-sector project coordination, message development, facilitation support, and contribution to strategic planning and best practice development.
  • Experience leading prevention-oriented strategies to focus system and public attention on solutions to health and human services issues.
  • Experience with community-based human service delivery, project design and management.
  • Experience leading program development and evaluation.
  • Experience working in the prevention field with emphasis on network facilitation and coalition engagement and coordination.
  • Knowledge of the fields of human services and the prevention scope therein, prevention science, and education.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of collective impact, performance accountability, community building and engagement
  • Experience facilitating networks and capacity building of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience coordinating program efforts with other agencies, community-based organizations and the public.
  • Experience providing technical assistance and support services to partner agencies, community-based organizations and the public.
  • Experience working with community organizations or coalitions addressing community concerns using public health prevention approach.
  • Experience providing trainings and presentations to communities, agencies, and diverse populations.
  • Health and human service project management.
  • Significant experience in developing, implementing, and/or evaluating programs, policies, and other interventions focused on primary prevention and public health.
  • Ability to monitor contracts and hold partners and vendors accountable. Ability to conduct research and to analyze and interpret data to guide decisions.
  • Experience supervising staff; managing budget; developing and/or overseeing the application of policies; managing protocols and practices.
  • Strong oral, written and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and with groups.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, Forms).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is generally sedentary in nature; however, incumbent may be required to do some walking, standing, bending, and carrying items up to 25 pounds. Ability to operate keyboard-driven equipment. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Sufficiently mobile to attend meetings at various locations and make presentations to county staff and community. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
