The Opportunity

Ulteig is seeking qualified candidates for a Staff Engineer position within the Water & Environment Team. The Staff Engineer is responsible for supporting the development of planning and engineering documents across a broad range of environmental disciplines related to hydrology/hydraulics, water quality, climate resiliency, and sustainability. This individual will also support the development of water resources models for simulating hydrology, sediment, and water quality across both urban and natural water systems. This individual will work closely with our experienced team of modelers, scientists, planners, and software developers to apply models that support our client's program needs in the areas of regional planning, regulatory compliance, reporting and tracking, alternative scenario assessment, and climate change and resiliency analyses.

What You'll Do



  • Collaborates with modelers, scientists, planners, and public agencies to develop strategies and planning documents related to water resource management, climate resiliency, or sustainability
  • Prepares technical reports, maps, and visualizations to communicate model results, implementation plans, and engineering analyses to stakeholders and decision-makers
  • Collects, processes, and interprets hydrologic, climatic, land use, and water quality data for engineering analyses or to support the development of hydrologic and/or hydraulic models such as SWMM, HSPF, LSPC, CE-QUAL-W2, SWAT, and MODFLOW, or similar software
  • Analyzes surface water and groundwater flow, runoff, sediment transport, and pollutant loading data
  • Conducts engineering calculations and data analysis to support the development of engineering concepts, feasibility studies, and stormwater capture project designs
  • Conducts scenario analyses to evaluate the impacts of land use change, climate variability, or infrastructure improvements on water systems
  • Stays current in engineering and scientific best practices, advancements in engineering tools and techniques, and regulatory requirements



What We Expect from You



  • Graduate degree in Civil or Environmental engineering with an emphasis on hydrology, environmental chemistry, sustainability, or climate science
  • Engineer-in-Training designation is a plus
  • Strong mathematical foundation, analytical skills, and attention to detail for data management and analysis using tools like Microsoft Excel to support engineering calculations
  • Experience with programming in Python, R, or similar coding languages is a plus
  • Experience with stormwater best management practice design
  • Experience using GIS and CAD software to create maps and engineering plan sets
  • A solid understanding of basic hydrology, sediment, and water quality principles
  • Familiarity with hydrology, hydraulic, sediment transport, and/or water quality modeling, such as SWMM, HSPF, LSPC, CE-QUAL-W2, SWAT, and MODFLOW, or similar software a plus
  • Experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask under strict deadlines
  • Must be comfortable working in a highly collaborative team environment
  • Demonstrated initiative and drive to succeed with new and challenging tasks
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, public and external agencies
  • Must have authorization to work permanently in the U.S.

Additional Opportunity Details:
Target Base Compensation Range for this role is $91,100 - $123,200
* Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your job-specific skills, education, training, job location, number of years of experience related to this role, and comparison to other employees already in this role
