Position Summary

The Clinical Physician-Research at Mile Square will design, conduct and evaluate research as a principal investigator (PI), co-PI, or contributing research scientist. Clinical physician-Researcher will propose new lines of investigation to discover, create, and explore new opportunities in specific areas that include but are not limited to: Medicine, health disparities, pharmacology, quality assurance and patient safety. Clinical physician researchers will take a proactive role in obtaining external research funding and may contribute topical expertise in medical student, residency and community education. This expectation is that the physician will devote at least 65% time to clinical and 35% time to research activities.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Independently propose, design and execute research projects and protocols.
  • Helps design and refine MSHC research protocols (e.g., publication processes).
  • Participates in identification and evaluation of investigators.
  • Prepares project reports (e.g., progress, annual, and final reports).
  • Collaborates with Mile Square staff and providers on proposed and ongoing projects.
  • Identify, develop, and seek funding for projects of interest to ensure position coverage.
  • Participates in health center and council meetings.
  • Participates in professional activities as appropriate (e.g., takes classes to enhance expertise in assigned content areas, attends conferences, co-authors research manuscripts).
  • Provides direct supervision to research team members.
  • Examine patient and obtain medical history from patient, parents, guardians to prepare Patient profile.
  • Review developmental and medical history of patient.
  • Participate in diagnostic staffing to correlate findings, determine diagnosis and develop appropriate treatment recommendations.
  • Discuss findings and recommendations with client, parents, agencies, etc. as needed.
  • Responsible for medication management (includes but is not limited to writing prescriptions, monitoring efficacy, monitoring adverse reactions).
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

  • Qualifications:

    Minimum Qualifications

    MD or DO from an ACGME/AOGME accredited medical college.

    Must be Board Certified/Board Eligible in Family Medicine.

    MS or MPH preferred.

    Experience securing grant funding to support research.

    Experience in writing and preparing manuscripts and chapters for peer review journals and books.

    Established publication record in peer reviewed journals.

    Documented research experience in a community based setting.
