The Healthcare Loss Control Expert is responsible for Munich Re Specialty - North America's healthcare related initiatives and the effective deployment of resources to best service MRSNA's internal and external clients across all healthcare related lines of business. Reporting to MRSNA Head of Loss Control, this role will assist business units in driving profitable growth of MRSNA's healthcare lines of business and will be a critical resource to underwriters for individual account risk analysis. Responsibilities Internal Customer Responsibilities:
Lead as the day-to-day healthcare risk management expert for all healthcare related lines of business within MRSNA Serve as the primary resource to the underwriting team for individual account risk analysis to assist in risk selection Provide healthcare risk management and patient safety education programs on key topics and evolving risks for MRSNA staff Support the underwriting team at client meetings by demonstrating MRSNA's healthcare subject matter expertise and loss control offerings
Evaluate and communicate key healthcare marketplace trends to related business units including liability, regulatory, legal and other issues impacting the lines of business offered by MRSNA Partner with other MRSNA teams (Corporate Underwriting, Claims, Product Development, Underwriting, Marketing, etc.) to ensure high quality delivery of holistic healthcare value propositions, including assisting with the development of new products and services Provide support for projects involving product development, underwriting tools and applications, claims studies, etc. Collaborate with interns to provide mutually beneficial experiences in loss control functions Participate in underwriting audits, including implementation of solutions for follow-up items Review and assess the loss control functions of our program administrators within the MRSNA Insurance Programs unit and their delivery of services to insureds
Client Engagement Responsibilities:
Develop a formal program for healthcare risk management and patient safety service offerings for insureds within the healthcare portfolio Formulate a customized healthcare risk management strategy for each insured to include a specific service plan Provide healthcare risk management and patient safety services to insured clients, including telephone and email consultations, audits/assessments to assist clients in identification of liability, implementation of loss control interventions and procedures to monitor outcomes Provide knowledgeable and expert education and mentorship for insured clients in implementing and maintaining their comprehensive healthcare risk management and patient safety program Manage healthcare risk management and patient safety vendors to deploy to insureds Develop healthcare risk management and patient safety materials Conduct healthcare risk management and patient safety educational in-servicing Perform requested research for clients on various healthcare topics Assist clients with development of policies, procedures, guidelines, committees
Healthcare Industry Relations / Marketing Responsibilities:
Assist in developing, executing and maintaining the healthcare business marketing plan Represent MRSNA at local and national healthcare professional association events Actively participate/lecture on behalf of MRSNA at marketing events Publish scholarly articles and other pertinent educational materials to the healthcare industry Maintain expertise of current healthcare issues, risk management and patient safety topics, etc.
Qualifications Successful candidates will possess the following skills/capabilities:
Subject matter expertise in healthcare delivery, healthcare risk management, patient safety principles and related insurance coverages Subject matter expertise in risk assessment and mitigation techniques within the healthcare industry across the continuum of care (ambulatory, senior living, acute care, life sciences, allied health, and miscellaneous facilities)
10+ years of experience in insurance healthcare risk management with a primary insurance carrier working in a healthcare loss control role Master's Degree (MPH, MBA, MHA) and Certification in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) and/or Certification in Patient Safety (CPPS) desirable Strong knowledge of the insurance market and trends Proven track record of presenting/educating audiences on healthcare risk management topics at professional association meetings, webinars, etc. Strong analytical skills to complete trend and causal analyses Proven track record of collaboration and coordination across an enterprise or large division with strong presentation skills Performance improvement leadership experience Ability to organize, prioritize, communicate, and meet established deadlines Proven track record of producing accurate, quality, and professional consulting reports, tools, and educational materials Energetic and enthusiastic self-starter with positive attitude and ability to work with multiple levels of management and handle multiple tasks Experience building and implementing key strategies Superior skills in relationship building and active listening Effective communications skills (verbal and written) with all types and levels of audiences Experience navigating through a large organization to execute through influence Strong executive presence and the ability to interact with the C-Suite Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite; Excel skills required, and Power BI preferred Willingness to travel 15%-20% of the time
The Company is open to considering candidates in numerous locations, including Philadelphia, Chicago, Atlanta, Princeton, New York City, Hartford, and San Francisco. The salary range posted below reflects market variations across various locations. This role is designated for either Philadelphia, Chicago, Atlanta, Princeton, New York City, Hartford, or San Francisco and reflects multiple geographies. The offer will be adjusted per geography. The base salary range anticipated for this position is $174,200 - $290,300, plus opportunity for company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay. In addition, the company makes available a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k match, retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO). The salary estimate is adjusted to reflect the varying market conditions across different locations, with the with the higher end being more aligned with the New York City and San Francisco job market. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role.
