NATURE AND SCOPE:

The Editor focuses on all editorial aspects of development and production of education-related materials. Primary responsibilities include enforcing contract- and stylebook-specific guidelines and ensuring correct presentation of all test forms and associated materials, both print and online. Editors track and move development and production work; provide training, direction, and feedback to vendors as well as new and existing editorial staff; and support content specialists, project managers, program managers, and Publishing management.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES:

  • Contribute to discussions regarding status of work, style, and process in development and production meetings, stand-up check-ins, team meetings, and debriefs on assigned contract(s).
  • Track all assigned projects and be able to perform basic prioritization according to schedules provided.
  • Provide due dates for the next group in line during production, including estimating handoffs when schedules fall off track.
  • Promote division's goal of applying style, formatting, and other program and project management requirements through assigned review of various templates.
  • Play proactive role in all facets of editing, from substantive editing to copymatching, as well as checking revisions and resolving outstanding queries.
  • Follow contract-specific style guides and related information in day-to-day work.
  • Responsible for updating and/or contributing content to administration manuals as necessary, working across various functional groups to gather information and gain feedback, and routing/discussing revisions with program managers and potentially clients.
  • Conduct QA/ QC/fatal flaw reads/reviews of assigned contract materials before approving it to go to press or the online delivery system.
  • Maintain clean e-workflow folder structure according to agreed-upon processes.
  • Work closely with fellow editors, graphic illustrators, production specialists, content specialists, vendors, and potentially clients to promote consistent, accurate, and open communication of all pertinent information relating to staff duties and contract specs and requirements.
  • Create and maintain contract-specific style guides and related information and share this information with all involved parties.
  • Create tracking sheets to follow work through production when necessary.
  • Create and update processes and process documents.
  • Coordinate review rounds, ensuring adherence to schedule.
  • Help to recruit, train, and mentor staff and temps.
  • Consider efficiencies to workflow.
  • Perform duties and fulfill responsibilities that may, from time to time, include related or unrelated tasks.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required (English discipline preferred)
  • A minimum of two (2) years of in-house publishing experience or comparable experience required

Competencies:

  • Experience with tools run in a Windows Operating System and Microsoft Office suite of products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with electronic editing in Adobe Acrobat
  • Ability to learn new databases and online platforms easily
  • Ability to multitask
  • Penchant for deadline-driven work

Anticipated Travel (may include local, national, and/or international travel):

  • Limited travel (0-10%)
  • Travel to All Staff Meeting required
