PRN SANE Forensic Victim Advocate

What You Will Do


  • Provides comprehensive forensic advocacy assessment and services to assist patients and their families.
  • Provides immediate crisis intervention, utilizing risk assessment tools to help patients understand personal level of danger
  • Communicates and works collaboratively with the unit forensic team, law enforcement and judicial personnel using a multidisciplinary trauma informed approach.
  • Acts as a liaison with community partners to expedite referral for advocacy support and counseling
  • Provides age specific care to patients/families in all age groups.
  • Develops and implements comprehensive safety plans with patients based on risks identified.
  • Makes shelter referrals, facilitates referrals to assist patient in obtaining orders of protection.
  • Provides and receives referrals for advocacy services; maintains patient care documentation
  • Assists patients treated by the forensic unit with Victim of Crime compensation applications
  • Performs administrative duties; responds to emails and phone calls for advocacy assistance. Documents interactions with patient's individual services.
  • Networks with service agencies; participates in collaborative programs and community service events; provides information regarding hospital advocacy.
  • Participates in unit educational initiatives, sharing the role and benefit of hospital forensic advocacy.
  • Provides programmatic advocacy support for the expansion of forensic services to the regional community hospitals, by networking with regional community advocacy centers.
  • Other duties identified through further development of the Forensic Victim Advocate role.

  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
