We are seeking a dedicated, hardworking, individual to help provide administrative support to transport and store material materials. As a member of our team, you'll contribute to APL's success supporting several sections across the FMT Group with processing, packaging, and delivery of inbound and outbound materials and shipments including exports, classified, and hazardous materials. As a Logistics Support - Material Management and Transportation you will:

  • Coordinate outbound shipments with APL partners, sponsors, and outside carriers
  • Prepare materials and equipment for shipment, including packaging and labeling
  • Select transportation modes and coordinate logistics
  • Ensure compliance with federal regulations and APL policies
  • Measure and prepare materials, request custom crates, and collaborate with external vendors
  • Schedule and manage large shipments and logistical moves
  • Handle dangerous goods, classified materials, and international shipments
  • Load and unload freight using forklifts and electric pallet jacks
  • Prepare and maintain documentation (waybills, invoices, export/hazardous forms)
  • Track and communicate shipment status from origin to delivery
  • Proactively resolve shipping issues to meet delivery targets
  • Build relationships with external vendors and customs brokers
  • Support additional FMT activities (e.g., rigging, shuttle driving, admin tasks)
  • Verify physical quantities, descriptions, and conditions of inbound materials using EBSS and SCLogic
  • Generate tracking and discrepancy reports; follow up on issues
  • Operate APL vehicles and equipment during daily operations
  • Communicate with staff across all levels to resolve receiving issues

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of experience in a logistics environment with direct involvement in identifying and coordinating shipments with outside carriers and freight forwarding companies
  • Ability to obtain an APL forklift certification
  • Experience with loading/unloading packages using pallet jacks and lift gates
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and walk extensively
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced environment
  • Reliable, punctual, and safety conscious
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong time management and customer service skills
  • Detail-oriented and team-focused
  • Requires valid state-of-residence driver's license in good standing.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid DOT medical card
  • Are able to obtain a Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information

  • Experience with military shipments
  • Experience with hazardous and classified materials
  • Knowledge of parcel tracking systems (Oracle, EBSS, SCLogic)

  • Dangerous Goods Certification

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities

Special Working Conditions:

  • Safety shoes required

  • Routine driving of APL vehicles (shuttles, vans, box trucks with lift gates)

  • Transport staff via scheduled shuttle routes

  • Flexible to work overtime and support core hours (M-F, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM)

  • Willingness to travel within the U.S. and internationally (3-5 times per year)

  • Maintain valid DOT medical certification and Dangerous Goods certification

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
