Job Purpose: The Aerial Ground Hand assists aerial linemen by preparing materials, tools, and equipment needed for overhead line work. This role also acts as a spotter for aerial linemen and equipment operators to ensure safety. As an entry-level position, it requires teamwork, the ability to follow directions, and compliance with all safety standards. Work assignments involve frequent travel, performing daily physical activity, and adhering to all safety standards.
Key *Responsibilities*: General * Pass tools and provide ground-level support. * Clear undergrowth and debris using hand tools or saws. * Maintain cleanliness and order at job sites. * Pull and feed cables, attach hardware, and secure work areas. * Handle, transport, and organize tools, cables, poles, and hardware. Installation Assistance * Assist in installing telecommunication fixtures. * Help with setting and removing poles, backfilling holes, and breaking concrete. * Support fiber lashing efforts from the ground level. Equipment Operation and Maintenance * Operate and maintain ground-level equipment like bucket trucks, winches, and hoists. * Perform routine maintenance checks on vehicles, tools, and equipment. Traffic Control and Safety * Flag traffic (when certified) to protect employees and the public. * Assist with traffic control setup of signs and cones. * Act as a spotter for aerial linemen and equipment operators. * Follow all company safety guidelines. Communication and Customer Interaction * Interact professionally with landowners to communicate site activities. * Communicate effectively with the team. Additional * Drive a 3/4 ton, 1 ton, or larger pickup truck to job sites or obtain supplies. * Available to work nights, be on-call, and willing to work overtime. * Willing to travel and work in all weather conditions. * Strive to provide the best customer experience. * Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education: * High School Diploma or equivalent. * Company-provided industry training and certifications. Experience and Qualifications: * Manual labor experience outdoors or 1-2 years in aerial fiber optic installation/telecommunication construction preferred. * Experience with trailer operations (hauling and backing). * Valid driver's license with a clean Motor Vehicle Report. * Commercial Driver's License (CDL) A preferred. Skills and Abilities: * Basic understanding of electrical or fiber optic work is advantageous. * Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and blueprints. * Knowledge of OSHA and NESC safety requirements. * Capability to safely climb poles using climbing equipment. * Willingness to travel daily and adapt to various schedules. * Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities. * Proficiency in handling small components and wires. * Capacity to work safely and navigate different terrains. * Competence to work from ladders and in bucket trucks. * Ability to pull lashers, throw ropes, and pull cables. * Proven ability to follow detailed instructions accurately and safely. * Effective communication skills. * Competence in using electronic devices and technological tools in the field. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
