JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibility Statement #1 (approximate time%)

Analytical Scientist with expertise in the analysis of formulated polymer materials, wood composites, metals, and ceramics. As an Analytical Scientist at Masonite, you will be responsible for understanding and applying analytical techniques to unravel the complexities of the diverse range of materials and formulations within our doors. Your role will involve a working understanding of spectroscopy, microscopy, rheology, and various physical and thermal characterization techniques.

  • Utilize analytical techniques to analyze and characterize formulated polymer materials, wood composites, metals, and ceramics.
  • Develop, refine, and implement analytical methods to better understand and predict formulation interactions and long-term performance.
  • Identify, recommend, and implement improvements to existing analytical methods and procedures.
  • Accurately and completely record experimental procedures, SOP, test results, and observations.
  • Build in-depth knowledge of fundamental properties of formulation components, including polymers, fillers, plasticizers, lubricants, flame retardants, catalysts, stabilizers, curatives, etc.
  • Support product development projects by providing analytical insights and troubleshooting product, process, and installation issues across different product lines.
  • Collaborate with product managers, R&D scientists, engineers, sourcing, and quality teams to provide technical support and assistance.
  • Communicate analytical findings effectively and provide training on analytical group capabilities and techniques.
  • Proactive mindset with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment, adhering to all safety protocols and guidelines.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Analytical Chemistry, Materials Science, or related field

PREFFERED EXPERIENCE:

Master's degree preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:



  • 2-5 years of proven experience in applying analytical techniques to formulated materials, including polymers, composites, metals, and ceramics.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop, and implement new analytical methods to address complex material challenges.
  • Strong understanding of spectroscopy, microscopy, rheology, and various physical and thermal characterization techniques and equipment, including but not limited to TGA, DSC, DMA, rheometer, titrator, FTIR, and SEM.
  • Experience working with various materials/substrates, including but not limited to SMC/Fiberglass, Thermoplastics - Polypropylene, ASA, PVC, Wood Fibers, Wood Polymer Composites, Metals - Steel, Aluminum, Adhesives, Sealants, Coatings etc.

The minimum base salary for this position is $76,000 + bonus + benefits. base pay may increase depending on job related knowledge, skills and experience. The information is specific to the state of IL and may n ot be applicable to other areas.
