The CareCoach Connect Senior Medical Assistant (MA) participates in providing patient care at an expert skill level. They have a duty to provide a standard of care that exceeds that of a reasonably competent and knowledgeable Medical Assistant. The CareCoach Connect Sr MA conducts training and onboarding of MA staff. The expectation is 25% of time is spent on specific initiatives that drive continuous process and metrics improvement in their clinic and enhance developing their leadership skills. The CareCoach Connect Sr MA is required to perform all duties of a Medical Assistant within their scope of practice delegated by, and under the supervision of, a provider (TX) or physician (FL).

Duties include: Organizes the clinical environment (to include patient home) and provides support in patient care situations. Support includes but is not limited to assisting physicians and nursing personnel, including those skills listed under Job Functions below along with various other procedures under the direct supervision and responsibility of a medical provider. The CareCoach Connect Sr MA assists in identifying patient needs or problems and communicating data to the provider or other members of the clinical team. The CareCoach Connect Sr MA delivers quality customer service. Ensures policy and procedures are followed including infection control, privacy and confidentiality.

Primary Responsibilities:



  • Performs all duties at an expert level within a Medical Assistant's scope of practice
  • Organizes the clinical environment and provides support in patient care situations to assist physicians, APC's and nurses
  • Perform patient-oriented procedures and medication administration under MA scope of practice
  • Operates diagnostic equipment (cannot interpret tests), remove staples from superficial wounds, changes wound dressing and obtains cultures, administers non-intravenous medication, performs simple specimen collection via noninvasive techniques and collects blood specimens via venipuncture or via capillary, performs EKGs. Performs quality control checks on equipment. Prepares and sterilizes medical equipment using the autoclave.
  • Mentors and trains other Medical Assistants
  • Identifies and notifies leadership of MA documentation issues
  • Ensure supplies are available, stock is inventoried, log data is accurate, and supplies are rotated
  • Requires little assistance with standard and non-standard requests and solves routine problems on own
  • In addition to regular Sr MA duties, at least 25% of time must be dedicated to metrics/projects/initiatives as deemed by leadership. Examples include but are not limited to the following:

    • Onboards new MAs and other clinic staff
    • EMR Subject Matter Expert; including eCW fast keys
    • Assists with clinic quality initiative tasks and tracks performance
    • Tracks STARS/HEDIS metrics
    • PHSA readiness SME; conduct monthly walk through; manage CPR/FIT testing recertification and tracking; after visit summary audits including hand washing; uploading logs; validator for the clinic; attends monthly meeting to walk through new clinical procedures; takes lead ensuring everyone gets signed off
    • Skills check off (both annual and for new hires)
    • Equipment certification and follow-up on equipment repairs
    • Conducts audits for unlocked ancillary notes
    • Med Adherence champion
    • Patient Retention projects and Marketing events
    • Champion on infection control and safety measures
    • Participates in process improvement committees

Required Qualifications:



  • 3+ years of experience as a certified MA or a combination of 5 years experience with at least 2 years of certified medical assistant experience
  • Reliable transportation for daily travel to various locations as assigned
  • Valid driver's license within the state of work
  • Ability to mentor others
  • Expert in computer literacy and electronic health records (EMR systems)
  • Intermediate Microsoft skills including Word, Outlook, Teams, and Excel
  • Advanced knowledge of medical terminology
  • Mastered ICD-10 and CPT coding
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • This position requires Tuberculosis screening as well as proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis through lab confirmation of immunity, documented evidence of vaccination, or a doctor's diagnosis of disease


Preferred Qualifications:



  • High school diploma, GED equivalent
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA/RMA)
  • BLS certification upon hire or within 30 days of hire
  • Bilingual in Spanish


Physical & Mental Requirements:



  • Ability to lift, push or pull >35 lbs. with assistance
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to use fine motor skills to operate equipment and/or machinery
  • Ability to receive and comprehend instructions verbally and/or in writing
  • Ability to use logical reasoning for simple and complex problem solving
  • Occasionally requires exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids
  • Ability to discriminate shades of color when reading dipstick
  • Ability to properly drive and operate a company vehicle



The hourly range for this role is $16.88 to $33.22 per hour based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
