Men's Heath, Aging, and Metabolism Research is seeking a highly motivated co-op student to assist and support the research team in the overall conduct of several ongoing clinical trials. Populations served include young adult, adult, senior adult and geriatric. Additionally, our research includes work with diverse populations including healthy, physically fit adults to individuals with various chronic conditions including diabetes mellitus type 2 and urinary incontinence. Our research focuses on exercise science, metabolism, hormones and aging. The ideal candidate will have interest in health science, medical science, and/or clinical research. This experience will provide opportunities for hands-on learning on the organization and implementation of a clinical trial, communication with basic scientists and familiarization with regulatory bodies and practices.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates in the day-to-day conduct of multiple ongoing clinical trials in accordance with the individual study protocols.
  • Assists in scheduling and conducting study visits within the Men's Health Clinical Research Unit, the Exercise Physiology and Physical Performance Lab, and other institutional research locations.
  • Assists in recruiting and evaluating potential study participants through review of electronic medical records and research patient databases.
  • Assist in creating new recruitment materials (flyers, brochures, letters, ads, etc.).
  • Conduct telephone prescreen interviews and schedule participants for screening and study visits per protocol instructions.
  • Assist in preparing and documenting Case Report Forms (CRF's) for participant study visits.
  • Upon completion of study visits, inputs participant data into the respective electronic research database (RedCap, SOCAR, etc.).
  • Collect vital signs, anthropometric data, perform EKGs, administer and score psychometric questionnaires.
  • Helping to maintain compliance with BWH Institutional Review Board (IRB), including assisting in submission and organization of regulatory materials.
  • Communicates effective clinical trial updates with various members of the research team.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with our diverse and varied study participants.
  • High degree of computer literacy skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Zoom, Teams.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Proactive attitude with the ability to take initiative and follow through on tasks independently and as a team.
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect for research subject's rights and individual needs.
  • Ability to methodically record data.
