Anticipated Hiring Range: $24.50 - $31.25 hourly
Full Pay Range: $24.50 - $38.00 hourly

Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

The Parent Social Worker serves as a key member of our legal team working closely with attorneys who represent parents in dependency and severance matters, ensuring that parents are receiving services necessary to help with reunification.

We are looking for a skilled problem solver who can diffuse situations and resolve conflict using good judgment while providing the critical communication and support necessary to keep our most vulnerable community members safe.

We Require

  • One year of direct experience within the child protection system as a case worker, family advocate, or social worker

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, child development, or other closely related field

We Also Value

  • Master's degree in psychology, social work, or other closely related field

  • Two or more years of direct experience working withina child protection system as a case worker, family advocate, or social worker

  • Experience applying policies, procedures, and state/federal laws related to child welfare within the state of Arizona

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills

Job Contributions

  • Aid in the communication between the parent, their attorney, and the Department of Child Safety (DCS)

  • Attend all court hearings with the parent and their team

  • Work with parents on areas of improvement identified by DCS and/or parent's attorney, including matching them with services to help reunify parent(s) with their child/children (i.e., find housing, obtain health insurance, locate treatment)

  • Encourage a positive, productive relationship between the parent and DCS by helping parents understand their role, the role of the social worker, and DCS's perspective of the case

  • Manage the parent's expectations of the dependency process; works to increase the parent's knowledge of and ability to navigate the system

  • Utilize established working relationship with the DCS team and other professionals/stakeholders to advocate and advance the parent's best interest

Working Conditions

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire

  • Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card eligibility

  • Position requires meeting with parents in a variety of settings, including court, DCS offices, social services office, and potentially dangerous parts of town; some visits may be required outside of the "normal" work hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday-Friday

  • Working in close physical proximity with others, and public contact may be a common occurrence

  • You may be required to lift 15-25 pounds from the floor to waist; 15 pounds waist to shoulder or shoulder to overhead; carry 15-25 pounds 100 feet or push/pull 100 pounds 1000 feet

  • Work requires travel to and from job-related locations during a scheduled workday, subject to County policies regarding the use of County vehicles and/or private vehicles used on County business
