Publicity Assistant, SMP

Description

The Publicity Assistant will report to the VP Executive Director of Publicity and an Associate Director of Publicity in the St Martin's Publishing Group publicity department. In addition to departmental administrative duties, this position will provide support for publicizing a variety of books and authors, with a focus on nonfiction books in the areas of sports, military, history, political and conservative genres. There are also opportunities for assisting and working independently on publicity campaigns within the SMPG group across fiction and nonfiction genres.

What you'll do:



  • Provide administrative support for the VP Executive Director of Publicity and Associate Publicity Director
  • Organize and prepare materials for weekly, monthly and seasonal meetings
  • Manage departmental duties such as preparing and submitting materials to meet media and award deadlines, handling billing processes, fulfilling book requests, and directing email inquiries
  • Orchestrate distribution of galleys and finished books to media
  • Assist in writing and distributing compelling press releases and creative pitch letters
  • Assist with author book tours, booking travel and maintaining schedules
  • Assist in outreach to targeted media
  • Monitor book coverage in key media outlets and track bestseller information
  • Research media outlets and event venues and update publicity database
  • Create and maintain seasonal assignment grids for the publicity department

  • Familiarity with a wide variety of media
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • This role is based out of New York, NY.
  • Desirable: Internship at a publishing house, in event planning, or in a public relations capacity is a plus. Ability to attend author events in NY/NJ/CT regional area. Some previous experience in an office environment is beneficial.


This role will have an annual salary of $50,000.
