Quality Technician

Join us and make an impact each day you work at Owens Corning Doors! Job Overview: The Quality Technician is a dedicated and detail-oriented member of the plant Quality Assurance Team. This role is responsible for maintaining quality assurance processes, recording, and analyzing data, and actively working to improve the overall product quality for a fast-paced manufacturing facility. This position assists the Quality Manager in the development of control plans and process documentation, plays an active role in the development of quality assurance procedures, and will be actively involved in process improvement efforts to ensure that product meets specification and customer expectations. This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a culture of safety as the number one priority.
- Work with other departments to improve the quality culture of the plant and seek buy-in for quality objectives and projects.
- Participate in internal process and product audits such as Layered Process Audits.
- Performing various levels of inspection such as incoming/receiving, in-process manufacturing, and finished goods using measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, tape measures), and determine if product is conforming per production drawings and engineering specifications.
- Document, report, and determine the disposition of non-conforming materials.
- Participate in the implementation of product quality improvement initiatives to reduce process variation and prevent defects.
- Use quality tools (Poka-Yoke, 5-Why, 8D, Pareto, and others) to troubleshoot, identify and analyze problems to the true root-cause level, and work with the appropriate teams to implement solutions and ensure the identified problems are resolved.
- Lead Kaizen events on manufacturing floor with crosses functional teams.
- Train employees on QA tools and techniques as required.
- Support the plant with the implementation and sustainment of the quality management system.
- Documentation of work instructions/procedures, creating reports using Microsoft Office applications, and using the ERP system to track plant KPIs related to Quality metrics.
- Participates as an active, constructive, and proactive member of the quality team.
- Completes other duties as assigned by the Plant Quality Manager.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (associate's degree or higher preferred).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a manufacturing setting as a member of a quality assurance team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in the use of measurement tools such as tape measures, micrometers, and calipers.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Proficient in using computer equipment and Microsoft Office software applications.
- Familiarity with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Basic knowledge of statistical analysis and data collection techniques.
- Strong knowledge of quality improvement tools and techniques. Knowledge of advanced quality tools such as Lean Six Sigma is a plus.
- ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI), Quality Technician (CQT), or Quality Improvement Associate (CQIA) a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, which may include exposure to noise, dust, and temperature variations.
