Job Summary
Applies basic and some advanced technical skills and knowledge to conduct thermal imaging, radiographic, penetrant, ultrasonic, magnetic particle or other nondestructive tests of nonmetallic or metallic aircraft structural parts and components that are used in operational aircraft applications. Ensures the new or repaired product meets company, customer and FAA specifications and standards.
Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities
- Performs non-destructive inspection of metallic and non-metallic components that are simple to moderately complex requiring some skill, experience and judgment to complete. Works under close to general supervision and determines plans and actions from standard procedural alternatives
- Reviews test orders to determine type of test required, test procedures to follow, and the acceptability criteria as defined by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), customer or Company process specifications.
- Sets up and calibrates the equipment to ensure the inspection will yield accurate results.
- Determines test equipment settings according to type of part, material, thickness, distance from test equipment, and related variables.
- Operates thermal, ultrasonic or other imaging equipment and observes video monitor screen to perform nondestructive inspection of metallic and nonmetallic components and parts for flaws, cracks, voids, discontinuities and presence of foreign object debris or other imperfections.
- Reviews and interprets images on the video monitor of the components and parts to identify imperfections or debris. Examines film when conducting radiographic tests to locate structural or welding flaws. Determine if the part meets or exceeds the acceptability criteria of the prescribed process specifications.
Performs other duties as required. These duties may include assignments in job classifications and departments other than the primary assignment. |
Minimum Qualifications |
Education Requirements
Minimum 2 Year / Associate Degree. Inspection technology. Minimum Other. Level 2 Certification non-destructive Inspection processes. If applicable, a combination of experience and training may be substituted for the education requirement.Experience Requirements 2-4 year(s) Inspector aerostructure mechanic, bonder or other like production job. Skills and Competencies
- Advanced knowledge and applied skill in non-destructive and in-process inspection.
- Attain Level 2 Certification non-destructive Inspection processes.
- Working knowledge of AS9100 and ISO9001 Quality Systems.
- Ability to communicate both written and orally with departmental and production supervision.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft programs (Work, Excel and Access).
- Reads, writes and speaks English to read and interpret manufacturer's specifications and manuals.
- A good understanding of sheet metal, composite materials, wood veneers, laminates and finishes.
- The following statement is only applicable if the job function will also be performed under the division's repair station certificate. To obtain a Repairman's Certification the person must understand, read, and write English and have either:
- At least 18 months of practical experience in the procedures, practices, inspection methods, materials, tools, machine tools, and equipment generally used in the maintenance duties of the specific job for which the person is to be employed and certified; or
- Completed formal training that is acceptable to the Administrator and is specifically designed to qualify the applicant for the job on which the applicant is to be employed.

Must be able to work in excess of eight (8) hours per day and five (5) days per week, if required. Additionally, those who work at NORDAM Repair Division must be able to ascend and descend stairs.

While performing the duties of this job, the Stakeholder is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment can vary from loud to a more moderate level. |
