A Brief Overview

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner to join our Pediatric Primary Care team in Flourtown.

Expected schedule for this opportunity:

0.9 FTE (36 hours/week + 1 Saturday/month): Includes 32 patient care hours (three 8:00 AM-5:00 PM shifts and one 11:00 AM-8:00 PM shift) and 4 administrative hours weekly. One Saturday shift per month (8:00 AM-12:00 PM) is included in the weekly patient care total.
Note: 1-hour breaks are not counted toward FTE.

The Nurse Practitioner will practice within scope of their Prescriptive Authority and Delineation of Privileges under the guidelines of the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's Division of Ambulatory Care. In collaboration with the attending physician, the Nurse Practitioner will provide comprehensive healthcare management to both well and sick children enrolled in CHOP's primary care network.

Responsibilities include assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care, with a focus on delivering high-quality, family-centered care. The role also involves participation in professional leadership activities, including quality improvement initiatives, staff education, and clinical consultation. Engagement in scholarly activities is also encouraged as part of ongoing professional development.

What you will do

  • For specific clinical job responsibilities, please refer to Delineation of Practice Document and Clinical Responsibilities checklist.
  • Assessment and diagnosis including obtaining a complete health history, performing a physical exam, order and interpreting screening and laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures, making a diagnosis and formulating a family centered plan of care.
  • Interventions including treating health concerns, providing patient/family education, providing follow up care, consultation with other health care professionals and making referrals. Perform advanced procedures that are listed in Scope of Practice document and approved as a part of the credentialing process.
  • Evaluate and monitor the effective of prescribed treatment plan. Using the most current evidence modify the plan of care based on the effectiveness of treatment and the patient /family response to the plan.
  • Participate in scholarly activities including research, publications and education.
  • Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate educational offerings. Act as preceptor and mentor to support the development of nurses, nurse practitioners, students and other health care providers.
  • Demonstrate commitment to patient safety by speaking up about safety issues and changing practices to enhance safety. Share errors through system reporting mechanisms, and demonstrates shared accountability for safe practices.

Education Qualifications

  • Master's Degree Nursing Required

  • Ability to work in an inter-professional team setting with multiple responsibilities.

  • Ability to collect clinical data using quality improvement tools.

  • Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required and

  • Registered Nurse (New Jersey) - New Jersey State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required and

  • Prescriptive Authority - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required and
  • Specialty Certification - in area of education/subspecialty. - upon hire - Required
