Assistant Cook

OVERVIEW:

The Assistant Cook supports food prep, dishwashing, and kitchen cleanliness as directed by the Kitchen Supervisor. In their absence, follows instructions from the Corps Officers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists with food preparation and production
• Sets up and cleans the dining area; mops floors after meal
• Keeps kitchen, dish room, pantry, and storage areas clean and organized
• Follows proper food handling and hygiene practices
• Washes dishes, pots, pans, and utensils; drains and cleans dishwasher daily
• Cleans sinks, carts, shelves, and equipment regularly
• Returns cleaned items to proper storage
• Cleans beverage dispensers and refrigerators as needed
• Maintains clean work surfaces and floors throughout the day
• May communicate with vendors as needed
• Must have a valid ServSafe Food Handler Certificate
• Other related duties as required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or equivalent (required)
• California Food Handler's Card or ServSafe Certificate (required)

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Bilingual in Spanish (preferred)
• Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods
• Team Player
• Great communication skills

EQUIPMENT USED:

• Modern Office Equipment and Relevant Software
• Relevant kitchen equipment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Labor intensive jobs should have more here
