Overview

The Agency of Digital Services (ADS) is the central IT organization for the State of Vermont, responsible for providing innovative and reliable technology solutions to support the delivery of government services. We are committed to leveraging technology to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accessibility for Vermonters. The ADS for ARE team supports multiple Agencies and Departments including Administration, Commerce and Community Development, Financial Regulations and Liquor and Lottery. We are looking for the right individual to contribute to our team in an IT Systems Administrator role.

In this position you will be at the forefront of IT modernization efforts, enhancing the Vermonter experience while ensuring the reliability and security of our IT infrastructure. Your focus will include patch management, server administration, and Identity and Access Management (IAM), among other critical responsibilities.

Candidates Should have:



  • Familiarity with systems architecture, server administration and security best practices.
  • Experience in systems administration, including server management and maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of patch management practices and tools.
  • Familiarity with Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve organizational goals.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and mitigate system vulnerabilities.
  • Familiarity with backup procedures, disaster recovery planning and testing a plus.



Responsibilities:



  • Perform regular patch management to ensure systems are up-to-date and secure.
  • Oversee server administration, ensuring reliable performance and optimal uptime across the infrastructure.
  • Manage and maintain Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems to enhance security and streamline useraccess.
  • Collaborate with teams across the Agency of Digital Services to modernize IT systems and enhance functionality.
  • Support IT initiatives that prioritize the Vermonter experience, ensuring technology solutions meet the needs of end-users.
  • Monitor system performance, identify vulnerabilities, and implement corrective measures promptly.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of IT strategies aligned with the ADS mission of modernization andinnovation.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures to ensure consistency and compliance across systems.



The ability to work as part of a team, communicate professionally and collaborate with coworkers is indispensable. An ideal candidate will have good communication and analytical skills, be a creative thinker, and be able to work collaboratively on projects or independently as needed. It will be expected that the applicant will have the ability to resolve issues in a timely manner, prioritize work effectively and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

The Agency of Digital Services supports a hybrid work environment. While regular (weekly) on site work should be expected, a mixed telework/onsite schedule is encouraged. This position may require some on call or after-hours work and is based in Montpelier, Vermont.

A fingerprint-supported background check may be required based on the assigned job duties and location.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed in a standard office setting, but some travel may be required for which private means of transportation should be available. Some maintenance work on assigned equipment may be necessary and some work outside of regular work schedule may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science;

OR

Associate's degree in computer science or college-level coursework that includes 15 computer science credits AND two (2) or more years of experience in computer or network support, programming or analysis, or database administration.

OR

Four (4) or more years of experience in computer or network support, programming or analysis, or database administration.
