Job Overview:

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will manage the mid-level provider team. This role combines advanced clinical practice with educational and administrative responsibilities to ensure the delivery of high-quality care to our neonatal patients. The APP will be instrumental in managing the midlevel-providers and also guiding the NICU team, enhancing clinical practices, and fostering a culture of learning and professional development. The lead APP is responsible for clinical leadership, operational management and professional development of APPs. In this role, the candidate provides coordination, and assurance of comprehensive nursing care using nursing process and evidence-based practice. Provides medical care and treatment to neonates in the critical care setting under the direction of a Neonatologist. Responsible for the assessment, plan, implementation and evaluation of newborn/neonatal care delivered to patients who present to the NICU, Labor and Delivery Unit and Mother Baby Unit. Performs physical exams, collects and documents data, conducts diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and interprets laboratory studies and performs billing. Prescribes appropriate interventions and medications. Utilizes protocols and nursing care practice for neonates and newborn patients. Discusses cases with obstetrician and neonatologist. Provides education to patients and parents.

Qualifications:

  • -Master s degree in Nursing (MSN) with a specialization in Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) or equivalent from an accredited program. Advanced Practice Nurse License via the Bew Jersey State Board of Nursing.
  • Registered Professional Nurse with current NJ state license; CDS and DEA license.
  • National certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP-BC) from an accredited certifying body. Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in a Level 3 NICU, with at least 2 years in a leadership or educational role. CPR certification NRP and BLS certification.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality when handling sensitive correspondence.
  • Provide comprehensive assessments, diagnoses, and management plans for neonates in the NICU, including those requiring advanced life support.
  • Perform procedures such as intubation, central line placement, and lumbar punctures as necessary.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Work closely with neonatologists, pediatricians, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care and discharge planning.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical protocols and policies for the NICU.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards
  • Manage, lead and supervise the mid-level provider team, ensuring high standards of care and adherence to best practices
  • Participates in the orientation and evaluation of APPs.
  • Liaison for APP concerns with HR and administration.
  • Responsible for scheduling and interviewing APP candidates and assisting in the new hire process, onboarding, training and mentorship of APPs.
  • Responsible for coordinating emergency coverage for mid-level providers and other corresponding team members.
  • Assists with the recruitment and onboarding of APP and the mid-level provider team.
  • Organizes and has oversight of new hires training.
  • Lead and participate in and promote research activities aimed at improving neonatal care practices
  • Support nursing education programs and serve as a preceptor for advanced practice nursing students
  • Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of the Department s goals.
