Senior Finance Generalist

The University of Virginia Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering seeks applications for a Senior Finance Generalist within the School of Engineering. The mission of the Civil and Environmental Engineering program centers on responsible stewardship of engineering practices for the built and natural environment that represents the backbone of modern society. Fundamental to this purpose is a sustainable and agile infrastructure, which places the environment at the center of engineering design for the future and is supported by practical engineering solutions to meet today's challenges. This focus modernizes the disciplines of civil and environmental engineering by integrating sustainability and resilience into core practices while leveraging modern computational methods that integrate sensing, simulation, artificial intelligence, and cyber-human collaboration into strategies for new and existing built and naturally engineered systems.

The Senior Finance Generalist will be responsible for a variety of professional level work across a composite of administrative service areas including budget, finance, procurement, academic administration, student services, grants and research administration, space and facilities and/or high-level operational support. The successful candidate will be expected to perform a variety of professional and operational duties that facilitate the day-to-day operations of the department.

• Routinely meet with department Chair to review financial health of department and provide financial forecasts and projections. In addition, meet with individual faculty to review all available balances and other financial activity.
• Partner with central offices to maximize the use of different funds (scholarships, fellowships, extramural funds, and school strategic) available for programming.
• Partner with Dean's Office post award to support faculty in their overall portfolio management.
• Lead the department's annual budget development, working closely with the department administrator and Chair to align the finances with the overall goals of the department.
• Identify solutions to inquiries related to use of the funds and matters related to finance/budget, processing payroll accounting adjustments and journals as needed, and performing adhoc financial analysis.
• Support departmental staff to ensure best use of resources in accordance with account restrictions.
• Work with graduate coordinators to budget graduate student transactions for the annual FY School budget.
• Examine cash balances periodically, or spend appropriately, to ensure the optimization of cash management.
• Monitor account activity and work with stakeholders to address deficits
• Provide assistance identifying funding sources and completing forms upon request.
• Enter/approve employee reimbursements and payments in a timely and accurate manner.
• Prepare/approve monthly account certifications

Expected salary range is $75k - $85k per year commensurate with education and experience.

Education: Bachelor's degree
Experience: Five years of experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
Licensure: None

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
