The Position

We advance science so that we all have more time with the people we love.

Roche Diagnostics acquired Stratos Genomics (https://www.stratosgenomics.com/) in 2020 for its unique chemistry, Sequencing by Expansion (SBX), that supports high signal-to-noise nanopore sequencing. The Protein Engineering group at Roche Diagnostics Seattle is focused on innovative approaches to improve the performance of proteins in SBX, especially the Xpandomer synthase, a highly evolved DNA polymerase that makes SBX possible. We are looking for people who are excited about the significance of our technology, and who want to make SBX successful.

The Opportunity:

  • Research, design and execute innovative and well-controlled experiments, with high attention to detail.

  • Identify and troubleshoot problems in creative ways.

  • Contribute to the definition and timely achievement of project goals.

  • Perform data analysis and protocol development.

  • Maintain accurate, detailed and reliable laboratory records.

  • Present findings at group or departmental meetings with clear, organized thinking.

  • Maintain the lab's cleanliness and organization.

  • Develop and propose improved processes to fulfill the above functions.

Who You Are:

  • You have a minimum of 2 years practical experience in computational protein design using state of the art design tools (structure prediction, generative AI, sequence design), with a focus on enzyme design and improvement

  • You hold a BA/BS degree in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemistry, Structural Biology; or a strong background in protein design, enzymology or similar and 5 years relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS degree with 4 years of experience or PHD

  • Ideally, you will have:

    • Strong bench skills, particularly executing molecular biology methods with proper controls

    • Demonstrated experience designing and screening protein variant libraries

    • Technical background in next-generation DNA sequencing

Required for consideration: A cover letter that addresses the following:

  • Why do you want to work with us?

  • What is your specific interest in SBX technology and how would you contribute?
