SNF/HLW Subject Matter Expert

Job responsibilities include:

  • Support developing solutions for spent nuclear fuel (SNF) and radioactive waste (RW) material handling, packaging, and disposition projects
  • Participation in the identification of technical and engineering activities and analyses (including evaluation of proposed policies, strategies and legislative options) needed to ensure commercial and DOE-managed SNF/HLW is safely and economically managed to support ongoing Department of Energy - Office of Nuclear Energy (DOE-NE) and Department of Energy Office of Environmental Management (DOE-EM) missions
  • Development of historical perspective and technical reports / presentations on previous SNF/HLW management (storage, loading, handling, transportation, disposal, packaging, etc.) activities including identifying relevant lessons learned for the mentoring and development of junior staff.
  • Review of technical reports related to commercial and DOE-managed SNF/HLW as needed to mentor and develop junior staff.
  • Participation in meetings with BEA technical staff, including workforce development sessions in individual and group settings
  • Support/participate in interactions with clients and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Ensure regulatory requirements, licensing, and waste acceptance criteria are accounted for in process development.
  • Help identify and support company growth opportunities.

Education: BS or equivalent in engineering

Experience: 20+ years demonstrated expertise
