JMT's Highways group is looking for a dynamic individual to be responsible for preparing plans from the provided engineering sketches and details for projects. Seeking individuals who are creative and capable of problem solving, open collaboration and who provide unique solutions. Potential team members should possess a strong sense of urgency and be capable of prioritizing tasks, preparing plans from the provided engineering sketches and details for projects, meeting deadlines and coordinating with fellow team members. This position is not eligible for employer-based sponsorship with the exception of the TN visa classification.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities



  • Transfer engineering sketches and details to plans utilizing AutoCAD or Microstation
  • Make basic engineering computations and prepare & revise specifications
  • Make quality control corrections to contract drawings
  • Prepare exhibits for reports, public meetings or presentations
  • Ability to work in a team environment with others on urban & rural projects
  • Strong sense of time management and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Ability to manage concurrent projects


Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities



  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
  • Knowledge of design and drafting procedures
  • 0-5 years of experience
  • Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively tasks/items of a project with other team personnel


Preferred Experience



  • Technical school training with courses in computer-aided drafting
  • Experience with OpenRoads Designer, InRoads, Geopak or other 3D modeling software
  • Experience developing construction plans for highway design projects
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Work, Excel, PowerPoint and Project is beneficial
  • Experience with Adobe, Bluebeam and photo editors is beneficial


Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
