We are seeking a qualified Cable Technician II to support telecommunications and network infrastructure operations within a Department of Defense (DoD) environment. The ideal candidate will have experience with voice and data cable installations, fiber optic systems, and structured cabling in compliance with industry and military standards.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Install, maintain, and repair voice and data communication systems, including copper and fiber optic cables.
  • Terminate, dress, and test CAT6 and fiber optic cables using appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Analyze, administer, and maintain telecommunications cabling infrastructure to ensure network performance and integrity.
  • Use network cabling test equipment including OTDRs, fiber power meters, copper testers, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Perform site surveys, troubleshoot cable issues, and execute corrective maintenance in response to trouble tickets.
  • Identify and remove abandoned cable, maintaining neat and safe cable organization throughout.
  • Follow all BICSI regulations, standards, and best practices for cable installation and maintenance.
  • Utilize power tools and work from ladders or elevated work platforms as needed.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and labeling of cable runs and infrastructure.
  • Provide excellent customer support in high-visibility, mission-critical environments.
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical personnel.


Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience:



  • Citizenship and Clearance:

    • US Citizenship is required.
    • Must have and maintain a current DoD Secret Clearance.


  • Education:

    • Bachelor's Degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work experience


  • Experience:

    • 3+ years of related telecommunications experience
    • 3+ years of experience working as a Cable Technician within the DOD environment


  • Certifications:

    • Related certifications for Fiber Optic Cable and CAT6 Cable Installation


  • Skills:

    • Must be familiar with BICSI rules, regulations, and standards.
    • Well-versed in the use of network cabling test equipment including network testers, copper cable testers, fiber Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDRs) and fiber power meters.
    • Analyzes, administers, and maintains telecommunications and network cabling infrastructure.
    • Dress, terminate and test cables and components, Ability to work with power tools and ladders
    • Tests, locates, installs, and repairs cabling infrastructure associated with trouble calls, and performs routine maintenance
    • Installs, maintains, and repairs voice and data communications systems
    • Identify, track, and remove abandoned cable, and keep cable neatly tied and bundled while maintaining safety standards
    • Must have the ability to communicate effectively to personnel of various expertise levels.
    • Demonstrated Customer Support Skills in a high visibility environment.
    • Problem analysis and problem solving.
    • Attention to detail and accuracy.




Work Environment and Physical Demand



  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
  • May require ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • May require the ability to crawl on the floor and in tight spaces, and climb ladders and elevated platforms to install equipment, cables, and fiber.
