We are seeking a dedicated Cable Technician I to support the installation, testing, and maintenance of telecommunications and network cabling infrastructure within a Department of Defense (DoD) environment. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with copper and fiber optic systems and a strong understanding of industry standards and testing procedures.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Assist in the installation, termination, and testing of fiber optic and copper cabling (e.g., CAT6).
  • Analyze, administer, and maintain network cabling infrastructure across secure facilities.
  • Utilize network cabling test equipment including copper testers, network testers, OTDRs, and fiber power meters to verify performance and troubleshoot issues.
  • Adhere to BICSI standards, ensuring all installations meet industry best practices and DoD requirements.
  • Support site surveys and infrastructure assessments to determine cabling needs and system improvements.
  • Maintain accurate records of cable runs, testing results, and infrastructure layouts.


Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience



  • Citizenship and Clearance:

    • US Citizenship is required.
    • Must have and maintain a current DoD Secret clearance.


  • Education:

    • Bachelor's Degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work experience


  • Experience:

    • 3+ years of related telecommunications experience
    • 3+ years of experience working as a Cable Technician within the DOD environment


  • Certifications:

    • Related certifications for Fiber Optic Cable and CAT6 Cable Installation


  • Skills:

    • Must be familiar with BICSI rules, regulations, and standards.
    • Well versed in the use of network cabling test equipment including network testers, copper cable testers, fiber OTDRs and fiber power meters.
    • Analyzes, administers, and maintains telecommunications and network cabling infrastructure.




Work Environment and Physical Demand:



  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer.
  • May require ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • May require the ability to crawl on the floor and in tight spaces, and climb ladders and elevated platforms to install equipment, cables, and fiber.
