Job Summary:.
Plans, implements and evaluates performance improvement activities within the NICU in collaboration with the Nurse Manager and Medical Director of NICU. Coordinates research studies under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. Makes the appropriate submissions to the IRB as needed and in a timely basis. Serves as liaison and coordinator of VON activities and projects. Acts as a clinical resource to the staff. Assists in the education of nursing staff. Facilitates Family Advisory Council activities.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Graduate from an accredited school or university
  • Minimum 5 years experience in Neonatal ICU in an acute care setting
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking abilities
  • Experience in data collection and analysis
  • Completion of all Orientation requirements of Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center
  • Successful completion of all orientation programs

Preferred:

  • Master s degree in Nursing (MSN)

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • Current Registered Nurse License in the state of New Jersey
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association upon hire
  • NRP Instructor certification
  • NRP certification from the American Heart Association

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Per Diem
  • Day shift

Essential Functions:
Collaborates with the Nurse Manager for the preparation of reports, statistics and project planning in the NICU. Organizes quality improvement initiatives in the NICU, collects and analyzes performance improvement data. Prepares performance improvement reports. Organizes education and training of NICU staff for new equipment and procedures in the NICU. Serves as a clinical resource to the NICU staff. Acts as a liaison between physicians, nurses and other multidisciplinary team members to coordinate care provided in the NICU. Coordinates, plans and assists the NICU Medical Director with educational presentation/discussions with the NICU nursing staff. Coordinates Vermont Oxford Network (VON) projects, collects data and completes required reports in a timely fashion. Collaborates with other members of VON collaborative in an effort to provide improved patient care in the NICU.

Provides leadership for short and long-term planning for all VON initiatives, visions, goals, program objectives/strategies/activities, training, evaluation and collaboration with others. Responsible for the publication and distribution of the NICU newsletter. Serves as a liaison to the NICU Family Advisory Council, attends all meetings and facilitates council projects. Implements and reinforces best practices based on current literature, regulatory requirements and outcomes-based research. Participates in policy updates and the development of new policies. Coordinates research studies under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. Makes the appropriate submission to the IRB as needed and in a timely manner. Participates in NICU and hospital committees.
