Position Description:

The School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Iowa seeks to hire a visiting faculty member specializing in sport media and culture. This position is a one-year, renewable appointment with full benefits starting August 20, 2025. This position involves teaching 4 courses per semester in the Sport Media and Culture major and minor. Sport Media and Culture at Iowa offers a humanities-based curriculum, with courses in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and the Department of American Studies contributing to the program. Possible areas of interest include, but are not limited to: sports journalism, sport and television, digital media and sport, race and ethnicity in sport, historical aspects of sport in the U.S. and around the world. We seek candidates with a demonstrated commitment to work with students from a variety of backgrounds and who hold a range of worldviews.

Education Requirement:


  • Master's degree in Communication, Journalism, Media Studies, Sport Studies, American Studies, or a related discipline


Required Qualifications:


  • Teaching experience at the university level.


Desirable Qualifications:


  • Doctoral degree in Mass Communication, Communication Studies, American Studies, Sports Studies or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated expertise in humanistic approaches to sport media and culture.
