Who is Saint Louis University? Founded in 1818, Saint Louis University is one of the nation's oldest and most prestigious Catholic universities. The Research Assistant engages in a summer long research project in a laboratory at Saint Louis University School of Medicine. This position involves conducting experiments, collecting and analyzing data, maintaining lab equipment, and assisting with administrative tasks. The ideal candidate will have a strong scientific background, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic research environment. At the conclusion of the summer, the research assistant will present their work at a poster presentation. Key Responsibilities: * Conduct experiments following established protocols and procedures. * Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data. * Maintain accurate and detailed records of all research activities. * Assist in the preparation of research reports, manuscripts, and possibly grant applications. * Prepare solutions, reagents, and other laboratory materials. * Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, ensuring proper functioning. * Track laboratory supplies and inventory used. * Comply with institutional safety protocols and biosafety regulations. * Assist in training new lab personnel and students. * Participate in lab meetings, seminars, and presentations. * Perform administrative duties such as organizing research files, scheduling experiments, and handling correspondence related to research projects. Qualifications: * Education: Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program and maintaining a GPA of 3.2. * Experience: Prior research experience in a laboratory setting is preferred but not required. Experience with molecular biology, cell culture, or animal models is a plus. * Technical Skills: Proficiency in laboratory techniques such as PCR, Western blotting, microscopy, and data analysis software. * Soft Skills: Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, excellent organizational and time-management abilities, and effective communication skills. Additional Requirements: Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Must be comfortable handling biological samples and working with laboratory animals if required. Working Conditions: * Work is performed in a laboratory setting with potential exposure to biohazards and chemicals. * May require occasional evening or weekend work depending on research needs. * Physical requirements include standing for extended periods, using fine motor skills for experiments, and occasionally lifting lab equipment or supplies Function Unclassified PositionsScheduled Weekly Hours: 40Saint Louis University is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
