Confidential Advocate - Engemann Student Health - Full Time 8 Hour Days (Non-Exempt) (Non-Union)

The Confidential Advocacy, Resources and Education - Support Center (CARE-SC) Advocate will provide supportive services to USC students who have been impacted by sexual violence. The Advocate will accompany sexual assault survivors to SART centers for rape exams, arrange transportation to and from SART Centers, and provide linkage to aftercare services on campus, including but not limited to student health care services, counseling, advocacy, Title IX, and academic accommodations. They will be available 24/7 to respond to requests from DPS, USC After-Hours Call Center (Protocol) or students who request services due to a sexual assault either on or off-campus. Advocate will be required to complete a TB test, and fingerprinting. The position is housed in the Confidential Advocacy, Resources and Education - Support Center (CARE-SC) in USC Student Health. The position reports to the Advocate Supervisor and Director of CARE-SC.

Essential Duties:

• Responds to the victim and stays with the USC student from entry to the emergency room, law enforcement and forensic interview, nurse exam and through recovery. Be present with the victim at the SART hospital before, during and after the medical forensic examination and police report. Provides professional knowledge of evidenced based concepts, principles, procedures and practices for victims of sexual violence. Provide advocacy services and support to survivors of relationship violence, stalking, and sexual assault or abuse. Work with first responders to sexual assault (emergency room, police, etc.) in ensuring that victims receive respectful and appropriate services and information.
• Work directly with victims of sexual assault in providing support, the full realm of advocacy, referrals. Assists in filing (if applicable) complaints to the designated office and the Title IX Coordinator; provides victims/survivors with Victims Bill of Rights and assists (if applicable) in applying for Victim Witness Assistance Program services. Act as liaison for victims of sexual assault with other agencies and with tribal, state, and federal criminal justice agencies and keep victims updated on the status of their cases and any criminal proceedings. Lends support by attending and accompanying the student(s) at the criminal trial or Title IX hearings. Provides emotional support, resources and referrals. Ensures that the victim's rights are not violated. Coordinates and monitors program personnel and participant registration and attendance, maintaining confidentiality and ensuring accurate data gathering and input; participates in participant follow-up activities and project evaluation reports.
• Provide linkage for USC students back to student health/medical services on campus. Enhance and build resources to meet the specific needs of sexual assault victims. Make appropriate referrals to community resources to victims Provide crisis intervention, care, support and advocacy to those who report incidents of sexual assault or interpersonal violence. Develop rapport and maintain regular contact with students to assess their need for supportive services and/or make modifications to reporting options, safety planning and service referrals. Assist with safety planning and provide guidance. Document and maintain confidential client files on all services provided Practice and ensure confidentiality and safety at all times.
• Participates and attends required meetings, conferences and trainings locally and at remote locations which are appropriately related to the program. Maintains and demonstrates an awareness and understanding of advances and changes in the fields related to Title IX. Performs advanced-level document production including complex formatting of documents, creating charts and spreadsheets and establishes and maintains databases.

Required Qualifications:

• Req Associate's Degree Degree in human services or related field.

• Req 1 year 1-2 years working in human services or social services.

• Req Knowledge of counseling or case management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Pref Bachelor's Degree Degree in human services or related field.

• Pref 6 - 12 months Experience as an advocate with interpersonal violence, sexual or domestic violence agency.

Required Licenses/Certifications:

• Req Certified Sexual Assault Advocate/Counselor
• Req Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
• Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

The hourly rate range for this position is $29.00 - $45.20.
