Job Description Vertex Pharmaceuticals is seeking a Research Scientist to join our in-vitro pharmacology group in San Diego. We are looking for a scientist with expertise in ion channel pharmacology to support drug discovery efforts. The role involves designing mechanistic studies, developing cellular models of ion channel targets, and analyzing data to guide decision-making. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong understanding of pain biology and experience in in vitro assays measuring neuronal function (e.g., MEA, Ca-imaging) using primary or human-derived cells. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and contribute to impactful drug discovery. Key Responsibilities: Design and execute in-vitro pharmacology studies focused on ion channel modulation. Develop cellular models to study neuronal excitation, action potential propagation, and neurotransmitter release. Analyze, interpret and communicate pharmacological data to project teams. Collaborate with technology teams to integrate advanced tools into workflows. Ensure high standards of scientific documentation and communication. Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Physiology, Pharmacology, Neuroscience, or related field with 0-3 years of post-doctoral experience, Strong understanding of ion channel pharmacology. Experience in in-vitro assays related to neuronal signaling and excitability. Proven ability to design, execute, and interpret cellular assays. Strong verbal and written communication skills. #LI-SV1 #LI-Onsite Pay Range: $105,600 - $158,400 Disclosure Statement: The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
