LOCATION: Rochester, NY

SUMMARY: Shall be responsible for supporting all APC Centers of Excellence, Product Development, Sales, and Field Tech Service in detailed analysis of product samples. Primary responsibilities are to: Administer and conduct all non-routine product testing, including product structure breakdown analysis, compatibility testing, environmental and abuse exposure; Coordinate maintenance and calibration of the equipment used for analytical laboratory functions. In addition, this person shall conduct product characterization studies and problem analysis as assigned. This employee shall also manage laboratory consumables and supplies

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Analyze samples submitted for analysis in an accurate and timely manner (Typically one week service).
  • Analyze samples submitted for structural breakdown.
  • Maintain an archive of analyzed competitor structures.
  • Administer and maintain efficient filing of analytical documentation, reviewing results with the Technical Manager or assigned Technical resource.
  • Coordinate with other labs, within APC and external, to have testing completed or confirmed.
  • Recommend / research new equipment acquisitions.
  • Conduct periodic audits of lab equipment accuracy and repeatability.
  • Obtain training and maintain skills in conducting and interpreting complex analytical tests- GC, FTIR, DSC, etc.
  • Support Production, Quality and Technical in the analysis of non-conforming and customer complaint product samples as needed.
  • Conduct product compatibility, abuse resistance, failure analysis, and other tests and investigations in support of Field Service, Quality, and Technical.
  • Review and hire potential Technical Intern candidates, ensure they receive proper training. Manage and review intern's work.
  • Write Standard Operating Procedures pertaining to analytical equipment.
  • Uphold laboratory safety policy and implementation for corporate compliance
  • Maintain laboratory consumables and supplies (i.e.: PPE's, glass ware, calibration standards, equipment accessories, chemicals, etc...)
  • Must possess a healthy work ethic.
  • Must take responsibility for work assigned.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Support and follow all plant Safety Rules, GMPs, and other procedural training requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) or equivalent from four-year college or university; with one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Candidate must possess/exhibit the following skills/abilities: Proficiently operate the following: personal computer, copy machine, and fax machine. . Maintain confidentiality with critical company product information, effectively manage multiple projects/priorities, meet required deadlines, possess excellent organization skills and effectively communicate with all internal and external customers. Software: Microsoft Office Suite, Autosketch and Filemaker and general data base software.
