Summary:

The Department of Medicine at the University of North Carolina has an opening for an Administrative Director for the Division of Oncology. The division is home to 35 faculty and 15 APPs, and truly serves our tripartite mission of research, education, and clinical service. As administrative partner to the division chief of Oncology and the vice chair for administration of the Department of Medicine, they play a pivotal role in strategic planning, financial management, HR oversight, and operational direction. They bridge the department, the school of medicine, the faculty practice, and UNC Hospitals.

Responsibilities:

Leading People: leads people toward meeting the organization's vision, mission, and goals. Nimbly navigates between the University and its School of Medicine and UNC Health. Able to lead and participate in teams. Champions departmental and organizational DEI efforts.

Leading Change: Initiates and manages the change process. Adapt approach and communication to the audience. Actively participates in and influences decision-making. Provides thoughtful analysis and prepares appropriate communication to senior leaders. Communicates a compelling vision. Manages implementation process and evaluates outcomes, and course corrects as appropriate. Supports a culture of continuous improvement.

Fiscal stewardship: Oversees divisional budgeting and manages ongoing performance, which may include multiple fund types (clinical, state, philanthropic, contracts, overhead, research). Collaborates with revenue cycle and FP finance to identify opportunities and to plan for external changes. Carefully outlines financial components for recruitment, retention, and ongoing operations. Develops, supports, and submits budgetary requests by stated deadline. Consistently identifies and takes appropriate action to correct unfavorable variances. Recognizes opportunities for increases in productivity, cost savings, and revenue generation. Takes action to ensure compliance.

Results Driven - meets and exceeds organization and departmental goals. Applies broad knowledge and critical thinking to develop and implement policies and processes to strengthen performance. Consistently assesses opportunities for improvement. Makes decisions that produce high-quality results by applying knowledge, analyzing problems, calculating risks, and putting forth informed recommendations. Strong understanding of financial concepts.

Preference will be given to candidates who have prior administrative leadership in an academic clinical department.

* Bachelor's degree in related field.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
Professional Experience Requirements:
* If Bachelor's 5 years of operations, financial, clinical experience, minimum 3 of which in an academic medical center or tertiary care setting. Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience.
* If Master's degree: 3 years of operations, financial, clinical experience, minimum 3 of which in an academic medical center or tertiary care setting. Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
* Understands and applies principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and polices related to specialized expertise.
