Position Overview

The following is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. This list of duties is illustrative only, and is not a comprehensive listing of all the functions and responsibilities performed.

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Director and Coordinator of Upward Bound, provide instruction and support for the Upward Bound summer program and students. Instructors will be paid on a per class basis. Summer course instruction will run from June 2nd through July 8th, 2025.

SALARY: 2,000.00 per class

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare lesson plans and educate students in the following subjects: Mathematics, Science, and English (Lesson plans must meet NMPED Standards).
  • Mathematics Instructors: Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus/Calc. or SAT Preparation.
  • Science Instructors: Laboratory Science-Biology, Chemistry, Engineering & Physics, Anatomy, etc.
  • English Instructors: SAT Reading & Grammar, Literature, or Essay and report writing.
  • Electives: Career Exploration, Physical Education (Self-Defense, Zumba, Pilates, Health, Fitness, etc.)
  • Monitor and record student performance on a weekly basis.
  • Must maintain student records and files in a secure and confidential manner.
  • Instruct using evidence-based and interactive teaching techniques.
  • Provide appropriate classroom management for 9th - 12th grade high school students.
  • Provide lesson plan (syllabus) that meet NM PED Standards to Upward Bound Director no later than one week prior to course instruction.
  • Participate in organized recreational activities with students.
  • Perform other duties as deemed necessary or assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
  • Applicants must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching students of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work without constant supervision and ability to motivate students.
  • Knowledge of virtual platforms such as Google Classroom and Zoom.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in the particular field of instruction, proper credentials required by NM State Board of Education and/or ENMU-R.
  • Required to attend Parent/Student banquet on July 8th, 2025.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience with challenges facing low-income, at-risk, and first-generation college students.
