The Control Systems Engineer will have a thorough understanding of PLC automated machine control systems and assume a key role in driving continuous improvement of our manufacturing processes. The individual will utilize their technical expertise in electrical process control technologies to support and improve automated process equipment. This role will also assist with the design and development of control systems for new equipment.

You Will

  • Support operations, maintenance, and engineering teams with troubleshooting manufacturing equipment.
  • Update and improve control software and hardware in existing equipment.
  • Provide hardware and software design and the development of process control systems for new and retrofitted equipment.
  • Design and document electrical control schematics to accepted standards.
  • Specify electrical components including PLCs, HMIs, relays, transformers, transducers, servos, safety switches, and enclosures.
  • Layout, design, and build electrical panels.
  • Interface electrical controls with pneumatic, hydraulic, servo, and mechanical actuators.
  • Create user and maintenance manuals for new equipment.

You Have

  • BS in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • 3 years of similar systems engineering experience and extensive knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and tools; Six Sigma Certification preferred.
  • Experience in programming Rockwell/Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMIs. Experience with GE Fanuc, Koyo, Siemans, Automation Direct, or Omron PLCs a plus.
  • Strong hands-on mechanical and electrical aptitude and demonstrated use of electrical devices (i.e. proximity switches, load cells, LVDT's, signal conditioners, etc.)
  • Knowledge of NEMA standards and familiar with OSHA machine safety and guarding regulations.
  • Able to create electrical schematics and control panel drawings to accepted standards.
  • Experience with servo and stepper motor drive systems and working knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Knowledge of machining processes. CNC programming and CNC machine tool control troubleshooting experience a plus.
  • Working knowledge of fluid power systems, electrical controls, and industrial networks (DeviceNet, EthernetIP, IO-Link, Point IO)
  • Understand and apply basic ladder logic principles, control for I/O, ability to understand PLC commands and HMI usage
  • Working knowledge of developing and maintaining robotic equipment (i.e., Fanuc, Universal Robots etc.) and deploying and maintaining electronic safety systems (i.e., Safety PLC's Area Scanners, Light curtains etc.) as well as error proofing devices such as Keyence, Cognex, SICK visions systems
  • Advanced computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office and CAD solid modeling.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, talk, and/or hear. This role consists of extended periods of sitting, standing, stooping and walking and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. This position requires the ability to move throughout the plant, office areas, and up and down stairs. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, 80 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position also required the ability to follow safety procedures includingPPE (Safety Glasses, Safety Shoes), Potential Hazards - Bending and Ergonomics - Follow correct lifting procedures.

  • Work in office environment with frequent exposure to a manufacturing/factory environment
  • May occasionally be required to perform job duties outside the typical office setting.
  • Travel: Less than 10%
