Job Overview

Location: Franklin, PA

The Hardware Development Engineer plays a crucial role in designing and developing electronic hardware, by collaborating with global team members to meet the needs of the underground soft rock organization.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Design & development of reliable electronic hardware for use in high performance mining machinery
  • Management and guidance of all aspects of the hardware design cycle, including requirements capture, design specifications, design reviews, system integration, troubleshooting, unit testing, product release, life cycle maintenance and product sun setting
  • Interact professionally with customers and domestic/overseas engineers, team leads, technology managers and system architects
  • Some domestic and overseas travel is possible
  • Collect and define global requirements for new hardware functionality
  • Perform testing and validation of new machine features prior to their release on Joy underground machines
  • Create training materials and other documentation required to support the release of new machine features

Qualifications/Requirements

  • 4 year Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology degree required
  • 3-5+ years previous experience in an electronics hardware role
  • Hardware design experience a definite advantage
  • Proven ability to manage projects to a tight timescale
  • Previous employment and job-related duties in a mining industry, heavy equipment, mobile machinery preferred
  • Previous hands-on knowledge of engineering, including: software, integration, embedded systems, hazardous area safety, trouble shooting, and problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent communication skills and proven documentation capabilities
  • Customer-focused, with ability to work in a team environment as well as individually
  • Detail oriented, rigorous, motivated self-starter
  • The ability to work in a fast paced, deadline focused work environment
