Job Description

Summary

A Solutions Manager supports and manages sales managers and distribution efforts across McWane complete product line by providing solution selling, technical training, and technical assistance in the bid/RFP process. The Solutions Manager will also be an integral part in contributing to technical seminars, exhibits, trade shows and conducting support on projects and activities when required by Territory Sales Managers. They will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships across the industry with engineers, customers, distributors and sales managers, all while practicing and promoting The McWane Way principles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • 1st Responsibility - Ensuring personal safety and the safety of team members.
  • Proactively promotes the McWane Way principles

Planning & Strategy

  • Astutely gather, analyze, and evaluate market intelligence as well as keenly assess pricing level of territory to ensure success in the market.
  • Communicate, influence and close current and prospective customer bids in scheduling face-to-face meetings, demos and trainings.
  • Facilitate innovative and progressive solutions by giving customers/distributors new alternatives to solve their needs.
  • Pro-actively develop knowledge of industry standards, requirements and products to become the go-to resource.
  • Responsible for knowledge of ongoing and potential projects in your geographic area; all stages: design through bidding.
  • Vet and recommend new products and services to the General Sales Manager and Engineering Department.
  • Be a strong business partner with your counterparts in other geographical areas.
  • Work seamlessly with marketing teams to help develop and implement marketing strategies.

Solution Sales

  • Act as the face of McWane by proactively building relationships and creating opportunities that increase municipalities, distributors, and customer knowledge of McWane products and projects
  • Attend trade shows and conferences and become an active member of the association community.
  • Foster relations through on-site visits, demos and CEU training to increase sales.
  • Respond to field service and troubleshooting requests with ownership and expertise to ensure excellent customer experience.
  • Analyze margin of products by region and develop plans for cost savings and improvements to drive margin improvement.
  • Manage sales tools and functional items, including test reports and data that assist in the facilitation of sales.

Inner-company Communications

  • Coordinate and follow-through on sales team requests through interacting with team members and departments with clear, timely, and succinct communications.
  • Act as an accountability partner to ensure prompt delivery of solutions and response to the customer.
  • Manage and complete the required paperwork, such as invoices and reports, while meticulously tracking and turning in expenses and bids on time.

Travel and Residence Requirements:

  • Approximately 75% travel; 25% home office work.
  • Must live in assigned territory.
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required: Business, Engineering, Marketing or related field
  • 5 years industrial solution sales experience required; Preferably in waterworks industry
  • 10 years of directly related experience in Sales or Sales Management in the following industries: water treatment/waste, construction, manufacturing, and/or utilities.
  • (5) years of strategic goal setting and project management experience.
  • CRM management experience
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel required.
  • Must be self-motivated and lead themselves well.
  • Must have solid negotiation and strong customer service attitude.
  • Ability to converse with all levels of customers and engineers

Driving Record:

Must have a valid driver's license and a clean DMV record of driving that can be insured.

Mechanically Inclined:

Must be physically and visually able to break down moderate to complex mechanical products and relate product details to customer and factory.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. The ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; Inventory software; Manufacturing software; Order processing systems; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

This a traditional office position with an expectation of periodic work in facility with exposure to a wide range of temperatures, humid conditions, moving machinery, dust, fumes, gases, odors, vibrations and varying noise levels.

Fieldwork can happen any time of year. Extreme hot and cold weather could come into play. Contact with product under air or water pressure is a possibility. Although it is rare, it is possible that employee might have to go into trench box to review product. Extreme noise, fumes or airborne particles do not come into play.
