About the role

We are looking for anUnderground Instrumentation Technician, to be responsible for performing planned and breakdown installation and maintenance on assigned equipment in the Underground in a safe, environmentally friendly and cost-effective manner to ensure that equipment availability is maximized.

Reporting to the Engineer - Underground Technology, and working in an exciting environment, you will be responsible to:

  • Perform planned maintenance on equipment by the scheduled due dates
  • Safely troubleshoot and resolve equipment problems and conduct breakdown repairs within planned time frames without compromising the integrity of the equipment
  • Enter reports on maintenance, repairs and diagnoses into the preventative and predictive maintenance database prior to the end of each shift, providing sufficient detail for others to understand the work that has been completed on the equipment
  • Assist in the efficient commissioning of new installations and modifications, ensuring the equipment has been fully tested prior to operational implementation
  • Keep work areas clean and free of safety hazards on a continuous basis and conduct safety audits as per company policy, providing written reports to the Technology Supervisor as requested
  • Work and Promote Safety within the processing plant
  • Install, prepare, run, terminate, and test coax, heliax, and LMR cable, Cat5, RJ11, and Fiber (Fuse on Connectors)
  • Work directly with contractors to maintain system reliability and assist in remote troubleshooting
  • Install, configure, maintain, and provide technical support for the operational technology
  • Setup, configure, and use test equipment to align, maintain and repair mine radio system
  • Maintain and provide technical support for mine monitoring systems including: compressed air, dewatering pump stations, and mine air quality systems
  • Work directly with contractors to maintain system reliability and assist in remote troubleshooting
  • Complete other related work as assigned by the Fixed Plant Supervisor, or Senior Managers

What you'll bring

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

  • Three (3) years' experience with underground network and communicationspreferred
  • Possess strong knowledge/skills in Network & Communications repair, maintenance, installation, and troubleshooting of complex underground equipment preferred
  • Significant experience with mining communication hardware and software applications, including but not limited to VHF and UHF Systems, IP Networking, Digital and Analog 2-way Radio Systems, Microwave and/or Point-to-Point/Multi-point Data-Radio Systems
  • Training on the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is an asset
  • Experience working as a Underground Communications Technician
  • Mine Site is preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of the installation, operation and maintenance of instrumentation systems and equipment
  • Knowledge of instrumentation systems for heavy industry
  • Knowledge of industry design practices and safety standards
  • Knowledge of computer programs including common office software
  • Ability to read service and parts manuals and updates in English
  • Strong planning, organizational, management and communications skills
