Purpose
This Research Scientist II position is a senior non-faculty research position in Dr. Sabarinath Radhakrishnan's lab, where the focus is on developing novel strategies to overcome resistance to CAR T cell therapy.
The scope of work in the lab encompasses T cell immunology, synthetic biology and translational efficacy studies and the Research Scientist is expected to be versatile with multi-domain expertise to drive the work forward. This Research Scientist is expected to independently perform studies to advance the goals of the lab. In addition, it is expected that he/she would be able to think independently and charter new directions for lab research, including facilitating collaborations with other research and clinical groups at MCW and outside. The Research Scientist is also expected to supervise and guide junior staff, graduate and post graduate students in the lab.
Primary Functions
- Perform immunology and cancer immunotherapy experiments from design conception to data analysis and presentation of results.
- Design and execute complex research procedures.
- Develop and perform routine and complex protocols for research programs.
- Prepare scientific papers and present scientific data at local and national meetings.
- Assist the principal investigator with preparing and reviewing grant applications.
- Coordinate research study activities; lead and manage projects.
- Assist in developing, implementing and monitoring quality activities.
- Collaborate with principle investigators in determining study design and performing statistical analyses.
- Perform and develop routine and complex computational and database methods for implementation.
- Develop new methodologies for lab procedures.
- Maintain supplies, may negotiate with vendors, track purchase orders.
- Participate in meetings with principle investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data, develop methodologies, evaluate lab procedures.
- Must oversee the work of laboratory personnel including training and development as well as daily work direction/delegation/prioritizing. Participate in training of other lab personnel to achieve experimental and educational goals.
- Train, mentor, and supervise graduate students, junior staff, and postdoctoral fellows.
- Help lead the newly developed emerging technology initiative
Preferred Schedule:
Full-time role with expectations for coverage during core business hours and flexibility required as necessary to accommodate business needs.
Position Requirements:
Knowledge - Skills - Abilities
- Understanding of general and advanced laboratory procedures, scientific approaches, and methodologies is essential
- Collegiality, integrity and ability to work in a group is required.
- Experience with immunological, biochemical, molecular, and cellular techniques is required.
- Critical thinking and problem solving ability is required
- Ability to effectively communicate and share ideas with collaborators and researchers in other labs is highly required.
- Ability to develop and follow research protocols is required.
- Experience with sequencing and single-cell analysis is preferred.
- Computational/bioinformatic experience is preferred.
- Experience with handling of laboratory animals is preferred, but not required.
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures is required.
- Ability to train and mentor gradate students, junior staff, and postdoctoral fellows is required.
Specifications
Minimum Required Education: PhD in a scientific field
Minimum Required Experience: 4 years
Preferred Education: PhD in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Cancer Biology, or Biotechnology
Preferred Experience: Immunology, molecular and cellular biology, biotechnology, cancer biology, and/or cancer immunotherapy research.
