Join our team at Terex and embark on an exciting opportunity as we seek a skilled and dedicated Principal Robotics Test Engineer to contribute to the Genie team in Redmond.

In this position, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of robotic construction equipment at Genie. You will lead the technician team in the development, integration, and maintenance of cutting-edge robotic systems. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in robotics, automation, and advanced control systems, and will contribute to improving safety, efficiency, and productivity across Genie Lift's product line.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams across mechanical, electrical, quality, and software engineering to develop innovative automation solutions that enhance equipment performance, operator safety, and job site productivity.

What you'll do

  • Robotic System Development: Design, build, test, and refine robotic components and systems for Genie Lift equipment
  • Integration & Calibration: Ensure smooth integration of robotic systems with mechanical, electrical, and software components, maintaining precise calibration for optimal performance
  • Innovation Leadership: Drive research and development of emerging robotic technologies to maintain Genie Lift's competitive edge in the industry
  • Collaboration: Work cross-functionally with engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, software) and manufacturing staff to implement robotics solutions and streamline production processes
  • Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to robotic systems, ensuring continuous operation and reliability
  • Documentation & Training: Create detailed technical documentation and provide training to other technicians and engineers on robotic systems and best practices
  • Compliance: Ensure robotic systems meet all safety, regulatory, and industry standards
  • Lead validation and field testing of robotic-enabled equipment in real-world construction environments
  • Ensure compliance with safety and industry standards (ISO, ANSI, OSHA) for autonomous construction machinery
  • Stay ahead of emerging technologies in robotics, AI, and automation to drive innovation within Genie

What you'll bring

  • 10+ years of experience in robotics development, troubleshooting, and deployment
  • 3+ years of expertise in autonomous vehicle systems, AMRs, AGVs, or aerial work platform automation
  • Experience in automation technologies such as sensors, actuators, motion control, and AI
  • Experience designing, setting up and executing robotic system test plans
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities
  • Deep understanding of design tradeoffs and uses between common robotic subsystem designs
  • Proven ability to lead complex engineering projects and mentor technicians
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with industrial automation systems in the material handling or construction equipment sector
  • Familiarity with Genie Lift equipment and its operational environment
  • Knowledge of collaborative robots (cobots) and human-robot interaction
  • Experience with off-road, construction, or industrial vehicle automation
  • Familiarity with human-machine interaction (HMI), teleoperation, and remote-control technologies
  • Knowledge of robotic welding, material handling, or automated assembly systems
  • Experience with cloud-based automation and IoT integration
  • Strong knowledge of robotic safety standards (ISO 10218, ANSI/RIA R15.06, OSHA regulations)
  • 5+ years of experience on sensor selection and implementation across various robotic chassis form factors
  • 8+ years of experience integrating industrial PLCs, actuators, and automation control systems

The salary range for this position is $111,000 - $152,000 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc.
