Essential Functions:
*Performs all essential functions of a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, providing direct patient care.
*Directly oversees and is accountable for the performance of a team of APPs and/or other direct reports.
*Hires, manages performance, and completes performance appraisals for a team of APPs and/or other direct reports.
*Orients, trains, and schedules staff.
*Assists with quality assurance programs as needed to help implement quality improvement efforts.
*Ensures continuing education and teaching for APPs.
*Acts as liaison between the hospital, physician and nursing staff, and other APPs.
*Ensures APPs are following proper billing compliance rules and methodology.
Education/ Licensure Qualifications:
Candidates with NP licensure require the following: 1. Master's in Nursing (MSN) (or) DNP (or) PhD Degree in Nursing required. 2. Completion of a Master's or post Masters' degree in Adult or Family NP program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). 3. Satisfactory completion of an approved formal education program which has as its objective the preparation of professional nurses to practice as nurse practitioner). 4. Current Adult/Gerontology (AGNP) or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Certification by an accredited APRN certifying body required. 5. Current APRN License to practice in Massachusetts Required.
Candidates with PA licensure require the following: 1. Master's Degree Physician Assistant required. 2. Completion of graduate level Physician Assistant program (Master's degree) accredited by the Accreditation and Review Committee for Physician Assistants (ARC-PA) or such other accrediting agency as may qualify a graduate to sit for the NCCPA certifying examination. BS/MS joint programs and those candidates with a BS and PA certificate are eligible, but ONLY for those who graduated BEFORE 1995. 3. Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) must be obtained prior to first day of employment. 4. Must hold a current valid license or be eligible for licensure as a physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. 5. Must have or eligible for, and maintain, a current DEA registration and Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration. Must complete 100 hours of CME according to national and state regulations during each two year period of employment.
Experience Qualifications:
1. Minimum of 5 years recent experience in primary care as an APP (NP or PA) required. 2. Demonstrated ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team required. 3. Prior experience managing direct reports required. 4. Prior work experience or commensurate degree program (MPH, MBA) in quality improvement, process improvement and program implementation required. 5. Prior experience managing remote work teams preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Strong clinical knowledge as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. - Strong managerial presence and ability to provide & direct feedback and guidance to staff. - Strong interpersonal communication skills. - Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment. - Results-oriented and exhibits a strong attention to detail.
